Countdown to RD Decisions (Class of 2018)

Just wondering: how many of you interviewed? I didn’t and I’m wondering if it’s going to be a disadvantage…

I didn’t, and I’m really regretting it now

Hie, guys!! I am from Zimbabwe, Africa, and l applied RD. l am really nervous about decisions. Are they released in waves?

@sonicsymphony @waahhh - I interviewed and the interviewer sucked big time. She just got trained and had no idea what to ask she just went thru’ a script. Finished early. One of the reasons Rice had interviews much later this year is because they tried to have new trained alumni interviewers but it wasn’t a pleasant experience.
@africankid - no waves. Released at the same time - we just don’t know when

I got the invitation for an on campus interview literally 2 weeks after I had visited Houston, so I didn’t want to have to make another trip back. I’m also regretting not doing the interview, though. Although I have expressed significant interest in Rice… but that probably doesn’t count for much.

I had an interview but was in the same situation as @ivytired. I doubt it did anything to help my application.

I think the fee waiver was some random algorithm - not because of good APs or SAT II. I hated that some others got it and I didn’t and was bitter for a few days.

I got a Skype interview. The interviewer was really sweet and warm. It was to the point and she asked pretty general questions. She answered all my questions about Rice perfectly
I also didn’t get a fee waiver. I didn’t have 800s on the subject tests but had 790s so I guess maybe that’s why…

I did any interview (requested off-campus alumni one) and it was great!! My interview was pretty young (compared to some of my other schools’ interviewers) and we had plenty to talk about, everything from Rice to books. It went really well and she specifically said that although the interviews don’t hold large weight on admissions, they help to reconfirm everything on an application and if you are at a tie with others, an interview could be what you need to get over the edge.

I did an interview on campus, and I was stuck with a senior who asked me questions they could have gotten from reading my commonapp.

I requested an interview, but due to limited interviewers in my area, I wasn’t offered an interview. They sent me several emails stating that they would put on my profile that I wanted an interview, but they couldn’t arrange me one. I felt really sad because I wanted it really bad to increase my chances of being accepted. Oh well. I’m hoping that everything else was good enough! Got to be positive! ^_^

lol i had to pay for my interviews… so i decided not to…

@astrogirl
Actually your situation is fine. Because you requested interviews and they couldn’t give it to you because of limited numbers, it will still show up on your file as a good thing that you requested it. So in simple terms, its almost the same benefit as doing an interview.

@matrixsurgeon thank you for the info! Let’s hope and see! :)

Someone has probably already asked this, but if you got a fee waiver, does that mean that Rice is very interested in you, or do they give fee waivers to just about everyone?

btw, the website says that they release decisions on April 1st. How do you guys know that it’s coming sooner?

@Classof2018app in past years, it’s been days before that every time. it’s just expected

Many schools guarantee decisions by April 1st as a precaution and are well known to release earlier. Typically schools similar to Rice, when they are able to, like to release decisions the Friday before, or at least before Ivy day. Since Rice released its ED decisions on the Monday after the typical Friday (based on previous years) it isn’t unlikely that Rice will release tomorrow; fingers crossed and good luck!

ok thx a lot for the info guys.

i feel so dumb for waiting around all friday lmao. i feel like tomorrow is the day, too. good luck to everyone!!
