Countdown to RD Decisions (Class of 2018)

@aspiringstudent , merit scholarships offers were sent along with admission decisions …the links are below the decision letter and they are also available on Esther. Good Luck.

Do students who did not apply for aid also have Esther accounts?

@Hoggirl, yes. DS did not apply for aid but he has an Esther account.

Hmmm. Thanks 4beardolls. I don’t think my ds has one??? Is it hard to locate? Did your ds have to set it up after acceptance? Thanks for any info you can provide!

@Hoggirl it was in a confirm email after submitting the application. It provided the Esther ID and then student had to set up password. The email went to the student.

Thanks! @jndsayre72. I will have ds take a look.

Valedictorian, Perfect SAT, ACT and 4 SAT Subject Tests, countless research work, Siemens Semifinalist, many leadership activities and wait listed. I indicated in my interview that I am interested only in Rice Baylor. Did it impact my admission?

Trying to figure out why you are on the wait list is an impossible task. I am sorry to hear that you are waitlisted. You should pickup and move on. Good luck with your other admission decisions. I am 99% sure that I am not going to Rice since I am going to be declining my Rice/Baylor interview due to a conflict. Hope you get that spot.

@Hoggirl, DS got his account set up information the way @jndsayre72 described.

@medAspirant, Sorry to hear about your waitlist. Was it from Rice or Rice/Baylor? If I remember correctly, you had some really good news from other programs, yes? Best luck to you.
@Confucious2014, did you not able to get a different date for the interview?

@4beardolls - I requested a new date but was declined. This is a hard decision for me

@Confucious2014, you must had an important event to attend. Too bad they wouldn’t allow you to reschedule.

@medAspirant - cases like yours is why i never like chance threads - never read them or answer them. If you are not worthy to be @Rice who else is ?
@4beardolls - yeah. I have AB Duke interview April 9-12. I always have dreamed of Duke since I went to Duke TIP in 7th grade and I always liked the prestige associated with Rice/Baylor and Brown PLME. I was really hoping the RD result move from Friday to Monday would also result in a move for Rice/Baylor to be on April 18th. But such is life. My parents can afford Duke, Vandy, Rice/Baylor but AB Duke would be amazing. I hope I get it.

@Confusious2014, AB Duke interview is hard to turn down. It’s probably one of the highest ranking schools with full tuition scholarship. I would probably advise DS to do the same if he had such a good fortune.

@4beardolls, @jndsayre72 Unfortunately, ds went back and checked. He says the e-mail he received after submitting his application only gave instructions for setting up the admissions portal/account. Says he did not receive info on how to set up Esther. He has e-mailed admissions and received an auto-reply saying they will get back to him soon, etc. Hopefully, that will be the case so he can get his Esther account set up.

Thank you for the information, however! Always appreciate all the help on these boards!

My d also does not seem to have an esther account. What is the purpose? Do we need one? Thx

@medAspirant, Oh my goodness. You are too perfect. That’s all I can think of here. That or you really flubbed your supplemental essays with a typo or something. I don’t get it and I encourage you to let it slide. Their issue, not yours.

Oh well, my Son was admitted and given the Trustee Scholarship but NO FA:((( I guess this is it with Rice, we’ll be declining the offer since our family cannot pay out of pocket $35,000 per year!!!

@CUPKSDAD, Esther account is for applicants to view and track financial aid information. What I am not clear is that DS did not apply for FA but on 12/20 Rice sent us the instruction to set up the link. We never bothered to set it up though. One of the posters above said that you can check merit information on Esther. I think that is why Hoggirl was inquiry about the Esther account.

@Hoggirl, just to let you know…DS got this merit award notification from Rice admission’s student portal and not Esther (since we have not set up Esther).

@4beardolls - yes, that is where my ds received his merit award notification as well - from the admission’s student portal. I didn’t know if he was supposed to have an Esther account or not. Is it ONLY for finanial aid?

Yes, that was why I had asked about it - because someone upthread said it was visible on an Esther account. Just didn’t know if we were supposed to have one or not. No biggie! I just want to make sure all i’s are dotted and all t’s crossed! I’m just a wee bit compulsive! ha ha!
