@4beardolls - It’s more than full tuition, its a full ride. I got the Vandy Chancellors which is Full tuition. I think your DS got CV at Vandy. Where are you leaning towards ?

ok - thanks - we are not eligible for any FA - so I assume not having access to Esther is not an issue

Thank you all for your kind words. @4beardolls, I am waitlisted at Rice. So, Rice Baylor is out of the question. I am just to get my head around this admission madness. Fortunately, I was accepted at Stanford. However I am not qualified for financial aid.

@medAspirant . GREAT. Go to Stanford. Don’t look back.

@MedAspirant
If you got accepted to Stanford, what would you even consider otherwise!! Good luck

@confucious2014, wow, full ride! Congrats again! Do you know how competitive is it now that you are the AB Duke interviewee? Did they tell you what % or number of students will be awarded it?
Yes, DS received the CV award. He is waiting for a couple more decisions before deciding.

@hoggirl, one thing I learned from the college admission process going through it with DS this year is that - dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s is very important! Yes, Esther account is only for financial aid so you don’t need to worry. If your student decides to enroll, then he/she will need to set it up at a later day.

Great - thanks! @4beardolls

I think I am rather paranoid about making an error!

Has anyone still not gotten financial aid info. All my requirements are checked off, yet there is nothing in Esther.

@SwatBoy, please call or email financial aid to find out if there is an issue because, if your FA app is truly complete, you should have gotten word of your FA package along with your admission decision. Ours was not complete due to inability to submit IRS forms, and we had to get specific instruction from FA office on how to work around that. Good luck. fina@rice.edu or 713-348-4958.

I did not have anything on Esther or student portal about financial awards or aid. My parents called and found out that meant I received no scholarships or financial aid. So will most likely not be able to attend unless a miracle happens and a lot of the outside scholarships I applied for come through. I think this is almost worse than not getting in though. However, I will look on the bright side and say that I am lucky I have several fall backs( but not as amazing as Rice) where I have been accepted and have offered me scholarships.

@yakker Thanks, I will definitely contact them

Finally got my financial aid today (was missing a non-tax related document) and it was very generous! Rejected from Yale which was my first choice so this means I’m going almost assuredly going to Rice (always my realistic first choice)! However, due to scheduling conflicts I cannot go to neither Owl Days nor the Admitted Students Days. I have never visited campus, do you guys recommend that I go at some other point in April if possible?

Pardon my ignorance, but how did people know to look online for their decisions on March 24? I had no idea, I just assumed I should wait for the physical letter (still haven’t gotten it yet), and I can’t log in because I forgot my password and they haven’t emailed me the temporary PIN…

If there were emails sent out, I never got one.

Has anyone received they’re decision letter in the mail yet? Do they even mail them out?

I think they do mail them. I assume they have been mailed out already, but I have not received anything yet.

^ It arrived at our house in Austin yesterday.

I received my decision letter in the mail yesterday.

Hi for the people who got accepted to rice, I really want to go there but I was Waitlisted. I wrote a letter to show my interest and I’m looking for someone to read and critic to see if it is okay so if anyone would be willing to help me out I would greatly appreciate. Thanks in advance.

@FLstudent2013, or any others who may have helpful info – without divulging any personal details you are not comfortable revealing, can you give me an idea of what you mean by “generous” financial aid? Specifically, I understand that Rice meets 100% of a family’s demonstrated need, and I am wondering whether Rice generally meets the need by offering loans, or does it also do so by offering grants? We are busy trying to get our belated tax forms to Rice so as to get a financial aid offer, and we were told by a financial aid officer that Rice would meet our needs above our EFC, and we just don’t have the experience to know whether that means we’ll likely be obligated to pay our EFC and then take out loans for the rest, or is it likely/possible we will be obligated to pay our EFC and receive grants or other forms of aid for the rest. Anyone know? Thanks in advance.
