Yes FA does apparently come along with the decision on Esther. I believe that most merit aid recipients also find out through Ester on the date of their decision.

@matrixsurgeon - do you know when Rice/Baylor decisions come out ?

@jrmama496 I’m curious to know this as well

So far I’ve gotten into Northwestern and Wash U but do not care about those two if I manage to get into Rice. I’ve had my heart set on Rice for the past year. Scared of getting in everywhere but my dream school.

I’m from Florida, applied to Rice because I fell in love with the school when my brother attended, spent a lot of time on campus too. I plan on majoring in biochem or bioinformatics/computer science. Good luck to you all!

Apparently, everyone that applied to the Rice Baylor program will first receive their Rice notification (obviously) through the normal means like everyone else. If you are admitted into Rice and you advanced to the interview/finalist stage of the program, then they send an email to those people soon after Rice Decisions. That is how they did in years past I believe but I don’t know much more! My question is just about whether they notify people that got into Rice but not into the finalist stage of the Program.

(BTW, I love the username)

Also, Good luck to everyone, regardless of whether today is the day or not!!

@matrixsurgeon I think that people do, indeed, get accepted to Rice but not finalist stage. It goes (if memory serves me right) 3,000 apply, 300 get admitted to Rice and get forwarded to Baylor, 30 get picked to interview, 10 are accepted to R/B and ~5 are waitlisted for the program.

@WeIsCool
Yea, I knew that but I was wondering about whether they explicitly notify people that they did not advance to the Rice/Baylor stage if they got into Rice. I know they send emails out to people that get to that stage, but I was wondering about the other couple hundred that make it into Rice but don’t get to the next stage.

And I believe that 45 get invited for interviews, 15 are accepted and ~10 enroll usually. I am not sure though.

Ahh, I see. I would assume that they would notify as such when you get your admission decision - I assume they’ll tell you your Rice decision, and then your R/B decision all at the same time. Not sure though, I hope we’ll find out tonight.
(by the way, nice to see you on this thread!)

I’m currently in Seoul, South Korea - in the same situation as @keepyourshirton here, it’s Friday night currently so I’ll wake up tomorrow morning and check my decision. Rice isn’t my #1 choice but it’s certainly up there, and I’d be honored to be accepted to such a great school. What I loved about Rice is the whole residential college system and the small liberal arts college feel within a university. Best of luck to all of us - perhaps some of us will be classmates someday!

Sorry if this has already been asked (it probably has) but are decisions released through portal or email?

Does everyone see in Esther the grayed out tabs that say Accept Award under the Award Status tab? It seems when we can see those locked tabs the answer has been yes and when we can’t see them the colleges say no or wait.

@collegeisgreat Yes, I saw that tab too about a week or so ago - I have had a few people tell me that they don’t have it but I’m not thinking much of it.

@collegeisgreat
I would not read too much into it even though there has been some differences among applicants. I have the tabs that are grayed out but I would think they update it all at once when they release decisions. I doubt that it is a hint.

It shouldn’t indicate any hints.

I agree with @matrixsurgeon. I would not read too much into it, regardless of whether you see the tabs (which are difficult to find) or you don’t see the tabs. I think that if you merely applied for financial aid by submitting the FAFSA and the CSS Profile, etc., you will be able to navigate to the “greyed out” tabs, and if you did not apply for financial aid, most likely you will not be able to navigate to the “greyed out” tabs. All son has at this point in Esther is access to the financial-aid portion of the system, and he can navigate to the “greyed out” tabs by clicking on several different links. But, according to the Rice website, your Esther account will look very different when the admissions decisions are loaded. The admissions info is separate from the financial-aid info. According to the website, your Esther account will look like this with respect to any admissions offer:
http://riceadmission.rice.edu/www/images/ESTHER_Web_Status_Check_Overview_screenshot-1.jpg

Erm guys I don’t have an Ester account… is this not good? I didn’t apply for FA. I went to this website for my admissions checklist - is it the same thing?

@WeisCool - This is not it. contact fina@rice.edu. ASAP. There are 2 separate portals - one for admission ( the link you have) and the Esther portal. You need Esther activated for you to check for any scholarships and fin aid. Maybe look thru’ Spam folder - Subject line - Rice Financial aid status and ESTHER login - received around Dec 20th. That ESTHER email gives you an unique Rice University ID.

@WelsCool, Please create an Esther account in https://esther.rice.edu/
It’s different from the application status web.

@Dad2013 @ivytired THANK YOU for clarifying! I just emailed them, and I might call them after I get out of school… I think I would be freaking out if I were not able to check my decision until Monday. Oh my goodness. I didn’t apply for FA, and I searched through spam, old mail, deleted mail… nothing. Strange because the applicant status portal shows that they received everything from me.

@WelsCool – I think you’re fine. Since you didn’t apply for financial aid, you should be notified of your admission decision through the Admissions Student Portal, which is what it looks like you’ve been checking at the link you posted above.
