Countdown to SAT scores

^A lot of colleges don’t even look at the SAT essay. They depend on the college app essays, since those are written later (and there’s no time limit, so they can be revised and refined).

You don’t need to retake. Congrats on your score! :)

^Thanks, flashpoint! I’m very happy with the composite score, just feeling uneasy about my essay, which sucked. Do the most competitive schools – Yale, Stanford, Harvard, etc. – really just ignore it, or do they look at the score but not read the essay?

Well, SAT writing generally isn’t a good indicator of true skill or potential (My strengths are CR and W, despite my horrid scores). That’s why a lot of colleges choose to ignore it.

They’ll look at the score (they want balanced students, right?), but I’m pretty sure that I read somewhere that they do not read your essay. I mean, you have 25 minutes to write it. That’s less time than even an AP essay.

I do know for a fact that your college app essays are a large part of what determines acceptance, so that’s what they pay attention to, not some potentially horrible unrevised essay that was cranked out in 25 minutes with no forethought.

Don’t quote me, though. Might want to ask around. I hope that you find a great college (I’m sure you will!)

My D. took the SAT as a 8th grader at age 12. We just called to ask her scores. They are: 570 CR, 620 M, 680 W. total 1870. The only topic she studied was CR and she didn’t do well on it. (good enough for a 12 yo, but consider she did study so it’s disappointing.) I think overall it’s pretty good. Over the phone they didn’t tell me the essay score, I forgot to ask. Guess we’ll wait for a writen report, hopefully the essay score will be included. She is still too young to have a CB account.

Oh no, I was talking about when our full report for this test comes out not the next ACT date lol. I’m actually not taking the April 9th ACT since I have to take the ACT late in April anyway as part of Illinois state testing (PSAE).

700 CR
800 Math
800 Writing (79 with an 11 essay)

hate CR. and i’m good/lucky at vocab (only one wrong ever between two sats and psat). feels so subjective to me.
should i retake to try to increase my CR/math score as that’s the most important, or is the 1500 enough?
second time i took it. first time went in cold and got 600/720/720.
looking to get into lower level ivy (Upenn, cornell) or perhaps duke. Have good ECs (3 sport varsity, E-in-C of paper, decent volunteer work). just don’t want to leave myself regretting. taking act and SAT II (math and Chem) in june.

DD2: 550/660/610 with a 9 on the essay.
Appears she’s the current record holder for this test - only on CC.

I got a 2180 on my first try and I am absolutely thrilled!!

M: 760
CR: 710
W: 710 (9 essay)

That made me so happy, especially since I didn’t prepare at all. When I took the PSAT I got a 215, so it was pretty representative. I got a 33 on the ACT and I think I’m going to retake the SAT just to see if I can improve, even if it’s only a little bit. I am soooo happy and relieved with my scores!

I got a 2210, right about where my goal was heading into the test (2220). It was first time.

Math: 740
CR: 710
W: 760 w/ 9 essay

I was pretty disappointed with my CR score because i expected 750 or more, by PSAT score being 73. My math was good because i expected around 720. My writing was good but i would have wanted to get 800. I have no clue why i got a 9 because i thought it was pretty good, around 11 or 12. At least i know i’m capable of getting above 2300.

@venice, it’s probably not necessary to retake, because colleges might glance at your SAT essay score but their real concern/way of judging your writing comes down to how your app essays are. just make them amazing and you’ll be fine :)

oh ignore my last post lol. I didnt realize I was on pg 14, not 15…

1st attempt

CR: 520
M: 530
W: 450
Essay: 6

1500!!!

LEGGHO!!
