Hi CC,

So my GPA is around a 3.2 and I got one D 2nd semester of junior year. I got a 33 on the ACT. I'm worried that with that D, I wouldn't be able to get into a good college.

What are my chances?

It honestly depends on what you consider a “good” college. UChicago is a good college, but you probably wouldn’t be admitted there. On the other hand, UMass Amherst is also a good college, and you could get in there. It’s all relative.

What if I get straight A’s my senior year?

What colleges do you want to apply to?

Is there a specific reason why you got a D?

Getting a D will likely raise some flags, but there is no way to tell if that one piece of a large puzzle will eliminate you from consideration. Schools will look at the whole transcript and so it’s tough to say. Were there any extenuating circumstances that lead to that grade?

@FlyEagle17, all the UCs, USC, NYU. Got a D because the workload was too much for me. I had to study for other classes, and run 2 clubs.

Nobody is perfect, you’ll be fine.

If you live in California, you should do fine with the UCs. USC seems like the hardest one, and as for NYU, i think you have a decent chance, especially with a 33 ACT

What was your junior year GPA?
