Course Advice for Psychiatry

Hi everyone! I’m deciding my junior year classes pretty soon, and I wanted some advice. I’m considering going into Psychiatry, but I’m not sure if my classes are suitable for the major. I planned to continue doing Wind Ensemble but then realized that there would not be enough space in my schedule for AP Psych if I did. Recently Wind Ensemble has become more tedious than fun and I find myself enjoying it less and less. If I don’t take Psych junior year I’ll take it senior year, but I’m worried it will make colleges think that Psychiatry isn’t something I’m passionate about. Also, I’m only going to be taking 2 APs for sure next year, and I’m worried this will seem too easy. The thing is I’ve heard many people say that you should really stick with something once you’ve started it because colleges like commitment, so I’m not sure what to do. Any thoughts?

I just realized I posted this on the wrong forum, sorry about this its my first time posting on this site :-j :-SS

I think you’re mixing up psychiatry and psychology.

Psychiatry is a medical specialty; you pick it in medical school. I don’t think any colleges are expecting you to have a firm decision on what medical specialty you want to pursue as a high school junior.

But even if you meant that you want to major in psychology - you don’t have to take AP psychology for that, either. Most colleges don’t really care what you are planning on majoring in - they admit students to the college as a whole, not to a specific major. (That’s not necessarily true at bigger universities where some majors are competitive, or where the majors are divided into schools. But it is true at most places.)

You don’t have to stick with something you don’t like just to demonstrate “commitment.” Be yourself and take the classes you’re actually interested in.
