Course Advice?

Can anyone recommend some good classes to take that are “less rigorous” …I’m sure at the college level, it’ a given all are difficult…but also interesting? So far I’ve selected 3 out of my four classes and all 3 are described as having particularly heavy workloads (Chinese10/20, i hear, is hard to keep up with). I’d like to have that one class that’s a bit more manageable than the others~

PY55! PY55! I absolutely loved this class! Introduction to Sleep, with Mary Carskadon. She is an expert in her field, funny, good at explaining things, very supportive, and fairly easy. You will learn a lot without having to do a ton of work. I'm so glad I took this class during my first semester (especially with several other really challenging classes). It literally changed my life and improved my health -- learning about the effects of sleep on the body and brain made me change my sleep habits!

py55 is cancelled for the fall.

i suggest EN9- its a course on business management thats supposed to be interesting but easy. also, remember that any class will become more manageable if you take it pass/fail instead of A/B/C/NC

good point. does taking a class pass/fail still make it eligible to count toward a concentration requirement?

question about EN9... there seems to be a lot of engineering courses geared towards business/marketing

is it heavily involved with business or heavily into the engineering aspect? i'd love to take some organizational/leadership courses (outside of the Sociology dept.) but i'm nervous it might be too into the engineering aspect...

help!

Do you guys think it's helpful to take one of the writing classes during first semester? I think it's EL11. I already have 4 classes in mind that I want to take, but if the writing class is really helpful and almost necessary, than I can take that in place of one of the classes. Thoughts?

is 10 minutes enough to get from most classes to other classes?

PY55 is cancelled? ARGH that's depressing. Sorry, folks.

what007 -- yes.

fooka -- yes, but most departments strongly recommend that you take all of your classes for the concentration for a grade. If you're planning to apply to grad school / med school / law school etc, taking classes in your major S/NC doesn't look too good.

EN 9 is supposed to be a fun but ridiculously easy class.

avni -- it completely depends on your high school background. If you wrote a lot of serious papers in high school then you should be fine. If not, or if you did but didn't do well on them, then you might ask your advisor about which class would be most appropriate for you.
