Course levels in the US and Canada

I’m from Canada and I was wondering what the equivalents are for class levels in high school are. There’s applied- slowly paced and will take you to college only, academic- which allows you to go to college and/or university, and some special programs like AP-advanced placement and IB-International Baccalaureate. I was wondering what the US equivalents are.

So the US has many of the same options. AP and IB are found at most high schools in the US, though we also have honors classes in addition to your standard courses. Honors classes I suppose would be the equivalent to your “academic” classes; slightly beyond the scope of typical classes. Then we have regular classes, though this is basically the standard, and anything beyond is considered extra for the intellectually curious or the students craving a challenge. I am somewhat confused what you mean when you differentiate college from university, in the US they are essentially both synonyms for higher education. Though based on your post, in Canada it seems some classes will only get you into “college,” while other classes are meant for those who wish to go to “university.” In the US college and university are considered basically the same thing.
