There are lots of people here who are Tisch-savvy, so I was wondering about a comment made at the info session before our audition : ). The girl who was leading us said that we would be encouraged to take all sorts of classes in the Arts and Science Departments if we made it into Tisch. This would be a definite plus for me, and I know that NYU rates 50-50 on talent and academics, but is it really possible to attempt a double major or take extra classes outside of MT if you’re in the BFA?

Thanks : )

It is possible to do a double major at Tisch. It is difficult, but doable. AlwaysAMom’s daughter did it and graduated and she may be able to shed light on that. It would be a little easier to do a minor with the BFA, so do also consider that. Some kids also come in with AP credits that make doing a double major more doable. Also, if you are in CAP21, the BFA training is for seven semesters, not eight. You could use your final semester as an “academic semester” and that would help with the double major. You would want to get advice from your advisor. It also depends what the double major is in. I know some who have double majored and some who have minored. As well, I know someone who graduated CAP21 with the BFA and also fulfilled the pre-med requirements.

One more thing…you refer to “classes outside of MT”…I just want to emphasize that even if you do NOT double major (like my daughter is not), there is coursework required outside of the BFA training! You have to take 8 liberal arts classes that include two freshmen writing seminars, and also 7 Theater Studies classes.
