Is it hard to get permission to take more than 19 credit hours in one semester? Does it cost more? Will they only let me do it if I need it to graduate on time? [This page](http://bulletin.case.edu/undergraduatestudies/policies/) has the only information I can find.
The page is actually pretty specific IMO. I think a two-minute phone call would probably get you the answers you need as to cost, etc.
My son has signed up for six courses a semester for four semesters running. I don’t think he needed permission for that. its a heavy load.
You need permission for more than 19 credit hours. I took six courses last semester for 4 + 3*5 = 19 hours.
If you want to take 19+ credits, you have to get dean approval. It does not cost more, and you can take up to 23 credits a semester. You go into the dean’s office hours tell them you want to overload than they approve it. Assuming you fit the gpa requirement, they will probably approve it. However, I would highly recommend against doing this. You will have no free time and will be super stressed. I knew one guy who took 21 and he was miserable. Stick to 19 or less unless you absolutely have to.
Do you know what kind of classes he was taking, or if he had a job? I’m thinking of overloading because I probably won’t have any commitments outside my classes.
He was taking mostly MechE classes I think. He did not have a job and didn’t really do any clubs that semester. I wouldn’t overload just because you don’t have other stuff going on. Even if you have time in the day, committing all of your free time to your studies is going to be bad mentally. You will likely be doing 60 hours of homework a week. You would be better off taking a class at Cleveland state over the summer for $1400 or taking a spring break or winter break abroad class than overloading. How many credits have you taken previously?
The most I’ve taken at CWRU is 19. The most I’ve taken in general was 20 at Cleveland State.
