Course Readers

I was wondering how to buy a course reader that is required for a class. Can I buy it online or do I have to go to the actual sore two blocks from the ucla campus?

Actual store - there are two different one’s that are used and then sometimes they use academic publishing in Ackerman.

Can you buy a used one from a student who took the course the year before? Or does the course reader differ from year to year?

depends on the professor

Most of the time, I recommend buying a new one. They act like workbooks (not the best term, but oh well) for me, and I personalize mine with color-coding and whatever I use. Still, if depends on your professor, like Terranoxic said. A good professor might make you want to keep the book, being useful and such, while the cruddy ones made you waste money…

What class is it for?

I have to buy one for Chem 14A; do you recommend getting an old one or new one from the store? What exactly is it for?

it basically includes all of hte notes that lavelle goes over during class…it’s helpful to follow along in class and not scramble to take notes…personally, I only used mine during class and didn’t reference back to it too frequently…the only thing that’s golden about his course readers are that they have past exams in the last half so i would still advise that u buy it because going over past exams really helps u do well on the midterm/final

u can always borrow from someone else if u want…just remember to copy the exams from the fall 2009 class from a friend so u can go over those too

Thanks for the info, guys! :)

Are there course readers for all classes?

no…depends on the instructor
