Course turnover?

What kind of course turnover takes place every year? By that I mean, how many courses change from year to year? Are a lot of new courses taught every year/a lot of courses only offered one year? What are the odds that any of the courses in the Amherst course catalog right now will be taught next year as well?

Just wondering, because I was looking through the online catalog and saw a lot of great courses I would love to take, but there were also some subjects I would like to study that were not necessarily covered.

Thanks…

I actually had the same question. And i looked at Amherst's course catalog (the actual book) and it actually stated which years the courses were taught. I'm not sure if this answers your question.

Btw which classes are you referring to?

I think certain courses are offered every year, and some are offered every other year. Professors probably decide this, and can probably change or create new courses when they want to.

I'm referring more to classes that are not present in the catalog than to those that are. I find a lot of classes I would enjoy taking and that I find interesting, but there are a couple of classes that I might want to take that they don't seem to offer, mainly a broad history class concerning either world history or european history. I really neglected history classes in high school, only took two of them and did minimum work, and as of now have little real knowledge of history. I figured I would take a class or two so that I had that type of knowledge for no other reason than a curiosity about other parts of the world. I also wouldn't mind a Greek/Mediterannean/Peloponnesian history class.

well, you have your 5 college exchange so, u can take any course around. i'm sure umass has any couse u could think of. one of the reasons i'm considering amherst is because i want to continue learning hebrew and the other top small schools i got into dont exactly have it, but umass does, so i could take those courses there
