Courses Across Colleges?

I was admitted into the USC college of Letters, Arts and Sciences but I am also interested in taking film courses and perhaps pursuing a minor in film. If I choose to attend USC, will I be able to take courses in the school of Cinematic Arts even though I am in the College?

Yes, absolutely.

There are many SCA classes that are open to all USC students. You can check out the Fall offerings here: [Fall 2010 | Schedule of Classes](302 Found) The ones that are restricted to SCA majors say so in the course descriptions. Some are hard to get into because of popularity until you have a more favorable registration time after a couple of semesters.

A tip: SCA offers a very flexible minor in “Cinematic Arts.” It is 20 units, with one required lower division course (4u), 8 units from a list of choices, and the other 8 units in just about any SCA classes that interest you. All you have to do is go to the SCA office and declare the minor - no portfolio or seperate application is needed. (You can take far more than the 20 required units if you have space in your schedule!)
Signing up for the minor opens most of the restricted classes to you and slightly reduces the number of units you must get in CLAS from 104 to 96 since your minor would be in another school.

Good luck!

Wow! Thanks so much dreamupsidedown and alamemom! USC keeps looking better and better!
