Courses for Transfers

I'm an aspiring transfer at a state school (will be a freshmen this fall) and I was wondering what kind of courses I should take in order to transfer to Yale. Is taking intro classes not good enough even if I excel in them?

You decide on your major, then you go to Yale’s website and look at their department requirement. Then you do the best of your ability to match their course descriptions and do extremely well in those classes. Then I suggest you start on your essay early.

Thank you for your advice.

If i am, for example an english major, should the other classes i take be hardcore clases?

like math and sciences?

You want to first look at the english department for Yale and follow their recommended schdule. Also look if there is any university requirement that Yale students are require to take.

i know that colleges look at the sats for transfers and that collegeboard lets you send the ones you pick. do you have to send sat 2’s now too?

i read on yale’s site that you do not.

Does it look bad to take intro science and precalc freshman year and get A’s if I would like to transfer to yale?

transferwannabe, yes, you should be focusing on general education requirements and not solely on your intended major. I respectfully disagree with dragonneedspank in that respect – follow the general B.A. requirements, not the English-specific ones. Most institutions give preference to applicants who have most of their general curriculum completed by the time they transfer, so that they can THEN begin serious work on their specific major.

Also, I do believe that Yale is one of the institutions that, at least in practice, only takes transfers ready to begin their junior year, so applying after only one year at your current institution may give you even lower odds than in general.
