Courses help - changing majors

I got accepted to SLO for a Math major, but I want to transfer to Mech. Engineering, which I hear is nearly impossible.

But I would love to try.

If anyone could give me the lowdown on what would most likely happen, it would be great.

AP Exams I have taken include: (Just in case any exclude me from courses to take)

AP US History
AP Physics Mechanics
AP Calculus BC
AP Literature
AP English Comp.
AP Euro History

I’m SO confused on the changing majors policy, even after reading tons about it. I only hear that its impossible and its better to just switch schools.

-Will it mean I will graduate in 5+ years? (since only a small % grad)
-Will I miss out on any classes by changing majors? (ie: I have to take Math courses still rather than ME courses)
-If I meet the requirements - could I still get rejected from ME?

and

-HOW long will it take to officially change majors?

bump 10chars

i’m currently a cal poly freshman and just successfully changed majors. it was actually pretty easy for me. i had to have above a 2.5 GPA and do well in Calc 1. I achieved this, so the switch was easy. I was also switching within my college. You’re switching out of your college, which is much much harder. I don’t think it has anything to do with what classes you take. You have to do really really well your first quarter probably (almost perfect grades). and talk to the department heads a lot. go to meetings with them and stuff.
