Hey guys,

I got a double at Court. At first I was pretty excited because it was a suite. I didn't really want anything too noisy and messy like Donlon, and really wanted something more modern and new. But now I'm a bit unsure because I wasn't expecting a suite, just a really nice, new one like Mews.

From what I'm getting, it seems like the suite experience isn't your typical dorm experience. It's not nearly as social and can be especially isolated. I know I won't try and stay in my room too often, but should I be really concerned about potentially bad suite roommates or an isolated experience? I'm not a recluse or anything, but I can be shy; so unfortunately, I can see myself staying only in my room.

Also, what is the Court like? I know a bit about the lounges, but can anyone divulge their experiences as well as descriptions of the suite?

Thanks.

first, CKB and Mews are set up nearly EXACTLY the same way. its kind of weird, actually. the only difference is that CKB is all connected and they have a skybridge and all that fun stuff.

a CKB or Mews “suite” is not a real “suite” like you’re thinking about it, it’s not like a common room with 4 adjoining rooms or anything. it’s really more of a “nook” in the hallway with 4 doors–double, double, single, bathroom.

you share a bathroom with your suitemates and thats about all. you might meet your suitemates first, and perhaps go to lunch with them a few times, but it completely depends upon you whether you want to be good friends with them. i know some people who are friends with everyone in their suite, some people who are friends with one other person in their suite, and myself, i wasn’t really friends with anyone in my suite but we were more just acquaintances and i think this tends to be the typical.

it’s really the exact same thing is a regular dorm hall, one long hallway with lots of rooms, its just that every four rooms are set into nooks off the side about 2 feet off the main hall. the only dorm that is more social is donlon. and the reason donlon is more social is mostly because of its shape–its kind of like a triangle-ish figure (usually referred to as the “thong shaped building”) basically, the shape of the building ensures that there is no such thing as the “end of the hall” because it is one continuos shape.

anyway, ckb and mews are def quieter than donlon, but they’re basically a typical dorm experience, except really nice and you get your own bathroom.

CKB (along with Mews) is the best dorm on North Campus. You’re confused about this whole “suite” thing, its just a hallway and your “suite” refers to the rooms near you on the hallway essentially. There are about 30 people on each hall in CKB and there are lounges on either end where everyone hangs out. Its a perfect set up.

I’m soooo excited for Bauer. If I’m in 412 I’m on the fourth floor, room 12 essentially, right? Also, do you think my window will be facing courtyard/dickson or mews/appel? And what side of Bauer do you think I’ll be on? Closer to the end or to the skybridge?

Does anyone have pictures of the hallway/dorm room/bathrooms in CKB?

Second runner43, I’m in Kay and would very much appreciate any pictures!!

runner43, you will be the closest room to the elevator/skybridge, and your dorm faces appel commons.

How big are the bathrooms if they’re shared with only a few other rooms? Like are there multiple showers?
