Court Hall?

Can anybody tell me anything about Court Hall? How new is it? How nice is it? How social, etc. The only thing I know about it so far is that its a relatively smaller dorm and I am actually perfectly ok with that. Is there anything I should be concerned about though?

Thanks.

its one of the newest dorms

What is the typical make up of rooms in Court? Are they all that 2-doubles-and-a-single style?

Court Hall, and all of CKB for that matter, is pretty fantastic (though I must admit I am a tad biased, as I did live on 4th floor Bauer last year). Like Feral said, it’s one of the newest dorms, which means, among other things, that you are blessed with air-conditioning. Having spent a summer living in Donlon and visited my friends at American and Northeastern, I can honestly say that it’s one of the nicest college dorms I’ve seen. Five people (2 doubles + 1 single) share one bathroom, which is very convenient. Each floor has its own study lounge, and depending on your floor, you may have a kitchen/TV lounge…those on the 4th floor miss out on a TV lounge, but are compensated with easier access to the SKYBRIDGE. Plus, it doesn’t require too much effort to walk down one flight of stairs to use the kitchen/TV.

Court Hall itself is nice because it’s the closest of the three to Donlon and Nasties. 4-Court, for the record, is the only all-guys hall on campus. All the RAs I know who are returning to CKB are really great people, so you shouldn’t have a problem there. Oh, and each hall typically has 31-32ish people on it, give or take. Bauer has its own laundry room, and Court/Kay share one.

Another great aspect of CKB is the Faculty-In-Residence, Francis and Phiroze, who you will probably meet on the first day of Orientation. They are an amazing couple, and plan lots of ice cream/exotic food socials for everyone in CKB to partake in. I highly recommend going–the socials are a good way to meet people, the food is delicious, and overall it’s just nice to take a break from studying/homework.

Anyway, that’s an overview of CKB. Definitely let me know if you have any more questions/concerns, and I’ll do my best to help!

For the five-person thing, is there a single common area when you walk into the room, which then branches out to the three rooms and the bathroom? Is there a floorplan available (of a typical floor, or some way to find out where on the floor a room is by the number)?

What does the rivalry with Mews entail if anything?

dean5150-- There is no single common area that you share with the rest of a suite. It’s actually not a “suite” in the conventional sense of the word…you basically just share a bathroom with four other people. The two doubles face each other, and the single is just a couple feet away from the bathroom, on the same side. Wow, that was probably a really awkward, unhelpful description, haha…I know I’ve seen an online floor plan before, but I can’t remember where. I’ll keep an eye out for one, though, and post it if I manage to relocate it.

nd09-- I’ve heard rumors of this alleged rivalry with Mews, but to be perfectly honest, I haven’t the faintest idea what it entails. Neither me nor anyone I knew ever took an active role in the rivalry, nor have we heard of anyone else doing so. Maybe that will change this year, who knows.

Thanks for all the info Alex. How spacious are the closets in Court?

I’d say the closets are fairly spacious for a dorm room; I mean, I had a lot of clothes, but between the closet and drawers, I didn’t have a problem fitting everything. There is a shelf in the top of the closet where I just threw food, sheets, and other miscellaneous items…so that’s a good spot for storage. I put all my shoes on the floor of the closet, which got a little crowded, but I managed. My roommate actually got creative with shoe-storage…her dad built her this hanging thing with little cubicles for shoes that just hung in her closet. It was pretty great.

Alright, so I don’t think I’ll be able to find a floor plan of the hall…but here’s what a typical hall in CKB looks like (4-Bauer, to be exact):

Sorry it doesn’t really show how the suites are set up…I did what I could. My roommate and I are actually currently having quite an enjoyable time looking at pictures from the beginning of the year and reminiscing about our freshman experience :)
