@deb922, you are right. I think outside of our remodel, I have known ONE person who got COVID, and that was a friend who got it when he delivered his child to U of Alabama.
After the August scare, I have been extremely careful. But I’m always having to remind DH “Distance PLUS mask.” He thinks it’s one or the other, and I have to police him constantly. He resents it and I resent him for having to constantly remind. I know others who are going through something similar with their SOs.
I will be SO glad to be finished with this. We started right before COVID, thinking it was a 3-4 month project. Instead, we discovered issue after issue after issue that had to be fixed, to the detriment of timeline and budget. The COVID issues have been horrifiying, but this is what is happening with our Hispanic population here in North Texas. Most talented trades in Texas are usually of Hispanic ethnicity, and for reasons already noted, they are currently bearing the brunt of the infections.
Even if not for COVID, I am so sick of this project. It’s unreal the number of decisions you have to make on a project of this scale. It’s just endless, or seems so, The worst part of it is that if we can’t sell our current home, we may end up having to sell the new house. If that happens, I will feel that all of this work/stress/etc. was for nothing. Well, not for nothing, as hopefully we would at least get our investment back, but that’s a whole chunk of our life spent working to get us back to square one.
But as ever, we have to remind ourselves frequently that so many others have it so much worse. Big picture, we’re in a good position. The suffering I read about in our country has me feeling grateful and depressed at the same time. A bit of “survivors guilt” I guess would describe it.
Wishing all of the folks here at CC continued good physical and fiscal health.
@Nrdsb4 that is an incredibly (it seems) string of personal to you illness. Your mouth must have dropped as each new illness was brought to your attention.
You clearly have your heart in the right place knowing that no matter how annoying your delays are, you are compassionate towards your reno team.
We just got word that my brother, who had COVID in August, was admitted to the hospital with heart and lung clots. They are attributing the heart to lung clots that moved. He is on blood thinners and being monitored. We hope the clots don’t cause a stroke like what killed my Mom. It’s a tough time.
Unfortunately, it seems that lots of people I know have kind of given up, in that they are accepting more COVID-19 (negative) lottery tickets by choosing to do things like spend more time in indoor shared spaces than necessary (e.g. dining in indoor restaurants, exercising in indoor gyms, social events indoors unmasked in close proximity instead of distanced and masked in the big back yard, etc.).
So far, none of those I know who has been somewhat careless has known to have hit the COVID-19 jackpot, but there is also the possibility of any of them being an unknown asymptomatic spreader. However, some other people I know have reported other people that they know getting serious cases of COVID-19.
In my area, there still seems to be a decent bit of mask wearing and distancing, although I have certainly seen pockets of little compliance in places. It seemed to take quite a long time until we knew anyone that had experienced Covid, but while not widespread it is not uncommon any longer. I probably know about 20 that have had Covid, most in their 50s and luckily no serious complications and seemingly no long-term effects at all.
There was a case nearby of a 19 year old that did appear quite healthy that died of Covid. He appeared to be in very good shape and I understand was an avid basketball player. No word on any comorbidities.
I am in NYC and I do not personally know anyone who has had Covid (knock on wood). I was at my coop’s board meeting last night, and we were told there has been no covid case in our building. We have very strict protocol in our building - mask required in public area and only one group (family/friends) in the elevator. All of our packages are delivered to our apartment by our building workers, not by external delivery people.
@Singersmom07 Sending prayers for your brother and hugs for your whole family. Covid can be a nasty bug, that’s for sure. May the doctors have wisdom and your brother’s body respond well to treatments.
I have a friend that has gone on with life, going to work, taking the train, socializing, and has not caught Covid the whole time. (also only wears masks when mandated). Over 60. Yet all the time we hear about people who got covid, who have barely left their homes, wear masks all the time, etc. So what gives? Also a coworkers nephew recently died from Covid in their home after they had started to recover , and they think was blood clot related.
Everyone within my circle wears mask and only go out when necessary. I am not aware of anyone with Covid yet.
My sister, down in NC, has gone about her life - playing golf, tennis, getting together with her friends for drinks and dinners. She has not contracted Covid, but within her circle of friends, quite a few of them have gotten the virus. They have all recovered. A lot of them had young adults living with them and that’s probably how they caught it. My sister is just lucky she has not gotten it. It’s a Russian roulette.
