Cowell, College 9, College 10 Discussion

Hi everyone!

So I've been accepted to UCSC and I've really had a hard time deciding between Cowell, C9, or C10. I have some questions about the colleges myself but if anyone else has a question, feel free to post it up too.
1. how true the stereotypes are to the respective colleges?
2. Are the atmospheres really different across the colleges?
3. Is there anything you can say about Cowell/ College 9/ College 10 and why you think it is better??

*Cowell *
– Theme: Social justice issues, cross cultural perspectives & human values on broad humanistic themes
- Original College, sick landscaping, more singles than the other colleges, smaller rooms, older dorms. Known for pretty heavy drinking and athletic types (it's right next to the gym). Best dining hall on campus, but it's closed right now. Very centrally located, it's the same bus stop as quarry plaza.
- traffic problems
- first college, a good mix of people without a strong stereotype, theme/motto: "The pursuit of truth in the company of friends.", located on the east side between stevenson and the bookstore/the new humanities complex.
- oldest on campus.
- housing is in multiple medium sized buildings.
- Best view, pretty architecture.
- Close to the rec center and the bookstore and the on campus bus.
- a number of whites and asians there, all pretty nice looking, dressed pretty normal. - Probably the most "normal" looking people.
- the original college, no strong stereotypes

*Nine/Ten *
– 9 Theme – International & Global Issues;
- 10 Theme – Social Justice Issues
- Basically the same college, loads of super smart asians, new dorms, and a skyscraper feeling. A good dining hall and decently close to the center of campus, but they're hard to get into.
- new built for frosh, more options for food, Asians
- newest dorms, huge mix of majors, diversity, etc. and houses the internationals. Which is what I like about it. I checked out one of the halls and dorms thanks to a very nice resident and yeah, considering the central location, the international flavor, the newer dorms etc., I like these the best.
- partying?

I have a friend who goes there. The stereotypes do have truth to them, according to her.
Cowell is probably best. You have a lot more spirit there, and a better community. 9 and 10 are new, and they really don’t have any character…just in my opinion.
