If you thought college was hard... think again.

I'm spending more time studying for this one section of the exam than all of the courses combined I took for each quarter in college.

My life currently:

9AM to 1PM - Study
1PM to 2:00 - Lunch
2:00 to 7PM - Study
7PM to 8PM - dinner
8PM to 2AM - Study

I just closed my book, and this will continue tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, and the day after... for at least three months until I get through with the CPA exam. And if I fail even one section of this exam, this will continue on for longer.

The dreadful thing is that this won't end for a while... after CPA exam, I'll only have a year or so of "break" from study since I'll most likely be working (but then I heard auditing job isn't much of a break either) until I hit the the books again for the anticipated GMAT exams... and then a year after again for the LSAT exam... and then I'll have to take the BAR exam if I ever become fortunate enough to survive the law school (assuming I ever get in)... sht the best thing about graduating was not having to worry about the midterms and finals but now it seems like every week is a hell week for me...

when will this continuous days of examination hell ever end sigh FML....

It’s easier than college by far. Studied 2 weeks for each part while working and living my life like normally. The first two parts I was studying during Deloitte Audit busy season. After this I’m hitting up the GMAT and CFA. Am I stressed or care? No. No offense, you need better work ethic, and maybe more intelligence so you study less for something so easy.

Wow, you sure must be a rising star as an accountant. Unfortunately, you obviously didn’t spend to much time working on that grammar or spelling. You just ran over the English language, then you backed over it, and finally ran over it again.

To poster: It’s a *****, but try not preoccupying your mind with how much work you are doing. Instead, try and focus on what your work is going to accomplish for you. Stress, in my opinion, is 90% made up in your head. The other 10% is what everyone experiences.

Come on are you serious? You are knocking on my grammar and spelling over the internet? I’m putting the same amount of effort into checking my posts for grammar and spelling as much as I spent on the CPA.

I agree with the stress thing. It really is all in your head.

^^ I don’t have to check over my posts in order to be grammatically correct. You saying you do just kind of backed up what I was saying.

And are YOU serious? Being arrogant about the CPA Exam on a forum? vomit

Some people test differently. At least the poster was able to have a freak-out in a grammatically correct fashion. To come in and just bash the person and tell them they aren’t as intelligent as you, because they are having a harder time preparing is arrogant and obnoxious.

I mean you say it’s crazy how much they are studying and then you say they need better work ethic? Makes no sense.

EDIT: I just looked at some of your posts because I recognized your username, Dawgie. All you do is talk about how smart you are, demean other people, and come off as an ass. Get a life man.

Thanks for backing me up, plscatamacchia. But his posts really do not deserve any merit.

First of all, sure, he said he spent only two weeks for each section of the exam, but never really said anything about passing them. As a matter of fact, he never even said anything about actually taking the exam, either. I can just as easily spend one hour (heck, I might as well just say one minute) studying for each section and say the same exact thing without being call off as a liar since I’m not lying. I believe Dawgie. I believe ANYONE can spend as little time as they want for just about any exam.

Secondly, as for the “studied during the Deloitte Audit busy season” part, I noticed he omitted mentioning whether he went to work on those days. In fact, I didn’t see any claim that he was a Deloitte employee at all. His two weeks spent on studying could’ve coincided with the Deloitte Audit Busy season just as my two weeks can coincide with PwC’s Tax Season. Again, he could be telling the truth, so I don’t plan on calling him a liar.

The only part where it sort of got to me was where he seemed to think he’s qualified enough to judge my work ethics and intelligence when he knows nothing about me as a person, a student, and an employee. That was quite a bold move on his part.

pls it makes perfect sense, if you have better work ethic then you don’t ***** about working hard. Cry me a river, I almost forgot how much time is consumed by typing a couple posts over the internet. I’m sure it really impairs my ability to balance my life =/ You got me, I’m awful at grammar and spelling. I’ll be sure to send you the GMAT screenshot of me getting a 500 in 2 months, Ho ho ho. Brag about the CPA? Not worth bragging about, not a very impressive certification.

dhl3, if I’m going to bring up the fact that I studied 2 weeks for each part ITS IMPLIED I passed them. Maybe that’s why you are struggling so hard with your studying, you aren’t making sense of what is being presented to you. Once again, the whole point of bringing up the fact I studied during busy season means i WAS WORKING BUSY SEASON. Otherwise there is no significance of making such claims. Send me a PM I can send you the Section ID for my CPA parts that I passed and you can look it up on nasba.org. I can also send you an image of my Deloitte offer if you don’t believe I’m a Deloitte employee. I have W-2s too, whatever you wish. Also you already told me enough to judge your work ethic and intelligence.

^^Just read what you write. It’s pathetic. You are quite jumpy and very defensive when someone questions your credentials. You must not have much going outside of work/school. Sorry…

“Brag about the CPA? Not worth bragging about, not a very impressive certification.”

Ah, I see. You are one of the dozens of people I have met during my college career that have done so much boasting about grades all their life that they don’t even realize they’re doing it. You are actually doing it by saying that. I for one have heard all kinds of different opinions about the difficulty of the CPA exam. Ranging from yours being the most dismissive of the difficulty to people saying each part is harder than the BAR. So when you just dismiss it and state, as a fact, that it is easy you are bragging.

Now, go read your other posts. I just skimmed the first 3 pages. There are MANY instances where you talk about how easy accounting is for you and how well you have done with internships. Yet, it’s funny, I didn’t read ONE post that made you come across as someone who could have a stimulating conversation. By all means, keep contributing to the stereotype that Accountants are nothing more than number crunching *******s.

“Also you already told me enough to judge your work ethic and intelligence”

You have showed FAR MORE in your posts. You seem to not have amassed anything but a good accounting GPA and the passing of 1/2 the CPA. You think that makes you intelligent? No, it makes you a POTENTIALLY skilled accountant. Intelligence is much more broad than that. It includes being able to convey your message without sounding like you had trouble reading “Everyone Poops”.

Yea I graduated in June. But I had submitted the application and $100 fee prior to graduation (sometime in April), so when I graduated, all I had to do was send my official transcripts, and it took them only two weeks to get back to me with the next steps.

When did you submit your application? It’s going to take you at least six weeks until you receive your NTS.

I submitted my application and transcripts four weeks ago darn I should have applied earlier . I’m on step four when I log onto the cali CPa board :(

You should hear back from them soon. The next step is choosing which exams to take. It’ll go pretty smoothly from then. Only took them 24 hours to get back to me with email with a payment coupon. Once you pay the due, you’ll receive your NTS within 48 hours (again, it took them less than 24 hours to get back to me).

I think you’ll be able to take your first section sometime in mid-August.

Would you say that most of your peers at Deloitte are having an easy time with the CPA too or is everyone in the same boat as you. I’m often struck by the fact that supposedly the Big Four only recruits top students but there’s so much talk in various articles and forum posts about how Big Four junior employees spend all their time studying for the CPA and whatnot and make a big point about how you cannot get promoted to PARTNER without being a CPA.

Also, does anyone care or can they even tell if you get a very high score on the CPA or is just passing all that matters. I know they recognize the top 10 in my state but I don’t know if any employers can tell the difference between #11 and the person with the lowest possible passing score.

jonahrubin and only jonah (No crying babies please):

At Deloitte, most people fail 1-2 parts of so. I actually heard of people failing 4 parts and still hacking away at it. Ever since they started putting a bonus for passing in the 1st or 2nd year (1st year, 5k, 2nd year 3k), people are starting to take it earlier. I can’t say they have an easy time, they study like madmen during their unassigned time while I go shopping and enjoy 2 hour lunches. They do recruit the top students, but top students in Accounting don’t mean much (In all honesty). It’s not like they are recruiting from IVY League schools. The common schools are BC, BU, Bentley, Northeastern, UMass. Don’t get me wrong good schools, but not GENIUSES. Also you cannot be a manager without a CPA, 5th year seniors with no CPA were cut recently.

No, score does not matter at all. Just pass the stupid test with the least amount of effort possible. My advice to you is if you goto Big 4, do not get tricked. It’s not full of geniuses, you are going to find a couple studs in there. The rest are slightly above average in intelligence.
