CR help please!

Thanks in advance, and please give the thought process behind your answer, if possible! Here’s the question:

In lines 35-37 in Passage 1 and line 86 in Passage 2, each author attempts to:

A) undermine a fallacy
B) rebut an argument
C) reiterate an idea
D) qualify an assertion
E) dismiss a tendency

And the lines, with a little additional content for context:

35-37: From its beginnings, rock music has challenged the basic values of the culture in which it emerged: not all at once, not always self-consciously, certainly not programmatically, but surely and steadily nonetheless.

86: Granted, within rock there are countercultural trends, but as a generic entity, rock so permeates our entire culture that other styles of music – such as classical, jazz, and pure country or western – are considered to be on the fringe, admired by small subcultural groups.

(D) - “qualify” means to limit or balance. The phrases beginning with “not” in the first excerpt clearly limit a broad generalization, and the word “granted” in the second excerpt is a pretty reliable signal that the author is making a concession, in this case, she’s mentioning some exceptions before asserting her broader claim (the stuff after the word “but”). @Ciella

Thank you again, @marvin100 , for your clear and thorough explanations!

My pleasure–hope it helps!
