CR is VERY frustrating ...

Right now I really really hate CR :< And to think when I took the SSAT I scored best in reading comprehension...

I took 3 BB tests so far, and I made 7, 4, and 4 mistakes (-7 on my first test). I also have the old 10 Real SATs, and I've been answering the CR questions there (4-7 mistakes as well, maybe a bit more...? I'll double check later). That's around high 600s to low/mid 700s. But the thing is, I'm never really certain of my answers... I owe some points to plain good luck :D And when I take non-BB tests (I know CC is generally against those, but hear me out), I fail miserably :(.

Barron's -7
McGraw -8
PR -8
Gruber's -6, -3
Barron's CR workbook -7, -12 (and this does not include sentence completions ... )

I tried the method suggested in Grammatix (don't thoroughly read the passage, go straight to the questions and read along as I answer) and I found the test easier. Ironically, I made more mistakes. I would prefer this method if only it worked well for me ...

Don't get me wrong, I generally have no problem reading through the passage first before answering, and I can almost always finish on time. But I sometimes find myself losing focus (using the Grammatix method, I was alert all throughout), and thoroughly drained after each CR section.

Sooooo, given how skewed my scores are, should I be extremely worried? Barron's is making me depressed and frustrated :( I know Barron's reputedly gives out "harder" tests (though personally I think difficulty can only be semi-accurately measured in math, not necessarily in CR or writing). But when it comes to CR, about how many points off is Barron's? Anyone who can post their scores?

And are the BB tests generally easier than the real thing? Perhaps someone here can post their scores on BB tests and their actual score.

Dude, I was in that position a couple of weeks before, and I can relate to your frustration. I was beginning to get worried and wondered if I’d ever get outta this slump. (5~8 mistakes consistently)

What really works is that you get a bunch of practice tests and you just answer the CR passages part. I got mcgraw 12 and princeton 11 solely for this purpose, and do bout one a day. Just keep practicing it and you’ll break out.

Also, I tried so many strategies to try and increase my score, but what works best for me overall, is to simply read it (actively and focused, don’t let your mind stray), then answer the questions. Lot easier lmao

Are the passages more important than the vocabulary completions?

bump … can anyone please post their scores?

SAME HERE! And my SAT is 2 weeks away. Tried out the guides from everywhere and found out that my traditional approach i learned from my school teacher is still the best. I normally will get the short passages right but the long passages will have 2-3 mistakes each.

WHY IT’S TOO HARD!!! ‘.’ BUMP! It should not be that hard for international students l0lz…
Anw, 16days more to go!

jkpark8010, how did that crazy practice work for you? Did you get good CR score?

bummpp … ?

what was the curve? was i know -1 was 800 (personal experience0 but was -2?

When I took my SAT, I just remember thinking DAMN I’m bombing the CR section right now. I got my scores back, and I had a 790.

If youre a quick reader and have good instincts sometimes thats good enough. It was for me, at least.
