Hey guys, just wondering what the best CR prep book was after the Blue Book. I know all of the basic strategies as of now and am taking the Blue Book tests as diagnostics, but I need another book for additional practice.

Right now, my score is around 650-690, but I really need and want to get it to 750-800 consistently. I have heard of certain books such as Barron's Critical Reading book, and have even heard that just reading is a good way to improve.

Please give your suggestions as this is a common topic and thanks for your help and advice in advance.

Is vocab a weak area for you? If so, study both volumes of Direct Hits. Also, go over all explanations of wrong answers for the Blue Book. Also, try notaraprep (google) strategy if you already haven’t done so.

I have both Direct Hits, but vocab is not the weak part of my CR section. I will still go over those books as well as Rocket Review’s list and many more. I have been taking diags in the blue book at a local program and I go over my mistakes with my tutor there… I have also read notiaraperp’s guide to how to attack the critical reading section effectively, but I am still stuck in the 650-690 range. I feel that when I crack 700 I will be good to go because its just upwards from there.

Anways, I will try to go over his guide again and go over Direct Hits… It’s mostly the passage based reading that’s killing me.

Do any of you know of any useful books for practice reading comp?

I also have the same problem. It seems like I couldn’t find the best way to attack passages however I tried out almost every method out there or it has to do with my general reading comprehension, though I read a lot of literature books. I dunno.
I tried Princeton Review’s last edition, but it wasn’t that helpful because it was generally very different from the real SAT’s reading section. So I wouldn’t recommend it.
People say if you have a lot of time it’s very good for your comprehension to read diverse and challenging reading materials. If you don’t have a plenty of time, just concentrate on the tests made by CB. I just practice CB’s tests and review every mistake I made thoroughly. By using only this approach I was able to bring up my score by 50 points.
