On my psat I missed 2 CR questions but 4 Sentence Completions. Considering that the amount of CR questions is vastly more than the amount of SC, my performance seems to be lopsided (in the opposite direction of most people). How should I improve what is for many the easiest part of the test?

Thx

Practice and learn some new vocab. Do what works for you - read, if it helps you - or make flashcards if it will help you more.

Look for signs in the sentences like "although", "however", etc. I'm sure some test prep book has a long list of these words. If it helps, cover up the answers and fill in the blanks with words of your own and then look for the answer choice that best matches your guess.

you both are giving him Verbal tips
he needs work on writing
i suggest that you get a book and go through and learn the usage and grammar rules
writing is a section that the more practice you do, the better you get because you recognize common errors quickly

CJSB, Sentence completions are in the critical reading section.

sorry--thought he was talking about identifying sentence errors

how's word smart or hit parade? do those work? cuz im in the same boat 6 missed sentence completion each practice test. It would really help me reach the 750+ i want in each section.

It depends on how you learn, ryanberry. If you learn best with single flashcards, and use the Word Smart or Hit Parade to make the flashcards, then go for it. My brother learned best by rewriting all the words and definitions in a notebook, and Word Smart worked very well for him.

Hm, for me, using vocabulary flashcards doesn't really help. Using process of elimination and plugging in work for me 8/10 times. On most of the practice tests I've been taking, I've only missed 1-2 sentence completions (although I'd much rather miss 0).

Now I wonder, do the words on word smart and hit parade really show up often?

ryanberry, from my experience (practicing with the 10 Real SATs and many old PSATs that my mother bought from the Collegeboard or ETS), the words from the hit parade are quite common - and the Word Smart words show up enough times that it is probably worth your time to study them.
