I'm a Chinese student and I'm going to the U.S. for undergraduate.

I took the SAT twice, respectively in Dec and Jan.

Dec - CR 520 M 740 W 580 essay 7
Jan - CR 560 M 720 W 600 essay 8

My target is 2000. Let's analyze a little bit.

CR - since i get lowest in this part so theorically it has most potential to improve. But CR is pretty hard for international students anyway, and the Barron's vocab is driving me crazy.

M - I know that it is obligated for Asian to get 800 in this part but i'm so careless. in the first test i forgot to bring a calculator so i finish without it and score 740. however this time i score unbelievably low at 720 with it. I myself is really disappointed.

W - My essay is 7 at the first time and 8 at the second. I can't figure out a way to score a double digit. and for grammar, despite the idiom part, I improved a little bit but still not enough. The only way i can come up with is to practice with test questions. Any better idea on this one?

Thanks for reading my thread. Please be generous to give me some advice.

I’d say that you can improve all three scores to get a 2000.

Depends on how you feel though. If you feel like CR or W are weak area for you, then you can definitely get them up. It really just depends, it’s hard to say with just numbers.

If you’re a great math student, (close to 800 math on SATII’s possibly) but just make careless mistakes, then taking it again might just give you an 800 in math.

The hard part about CR is its also reading comprehension, in addition to horribly long lists of vocab. If you’re a junior, then great. You have many more months to prepare. I’d advise trying to learn as much vocab as you can, and then also just reading books to try to improve your english reading abilities (could help a ton since you’re international). And for writing, practice some essays if possible. You should try to have a few books, historical examples, and personal examples handy that can be applicable to a variety of essays. (For instance, I’ve used the Count of Monte Cristo on 2 of my 3 SAT essays). And then just try to memorize grammar rules.

Just be mindful, that a single SAT score isn’t representative of you. Its only a number. Its great to get wonderful SAT scores, but theres more to life than just SATs.

Good luck!
