Cramming my freakin life..

I need BUTTload of help.

So I plan to cram my prep to increase my PSAT to a 230+

Pretty normal right?

Monday-Friday: Take 2 sections CR, W, M and work it out, 50 words per day, write a sample essay topic, grade it (posting on CC, you guys are amazing)

Saturday-Sunday: Take practice test, Learn 100 words per day, write two sample essay

Repeat till my PSATs (Mid October 2011).

Oh so if you are wondering why I am only doing 50 words, instead of 100, I have school -__-''. So yeah.

My current score is around the 200 mark. And my goal is basically this: M-75+ CR-70+ W-75+. Hopefully it'll work out and I'll score around the 230 mark.

Good plan?
(p.s. my school system SUCK. So I can probably sneak to do some SAT prep. Teachers always put me int he back of the room Dx.)

Actually forget this question ^

I decided whether you agree or you don’t, I’m doing it…

So NVM

DO NOT COMMENT

Actually, what state do you live in, and are you a junior? If you want to make National Merit Semifinalist, it all depends on the above factors.

^She lives in NY, which has an insanely high NMS cutoff :p.

Oh… it is ~220-ish. Ouch. That’s quite high.

Sounds good, just don’t sacrifice your grades for prep time. As long as you’re still acing all your classes with straight A’s, then feel free to do so. I wouldn’t recommend studying in class, it just seems so hectic. At school, just focus on school, at home, go gung-ho, it’s your free time. Good luck.

First thing: you know there is no essay on PSAT right?

Also, that is a pretty rough schedule. I got a 235 on PSAT and 36 ACT but I did not work as intensely as you’re planning to. I used to do something like that (maybe more) but I got burned out. Prep became so routine that I lost hte focus of the “test-taking situation”. I did it so much, subconsciously, I wasn’t giving my all. Prepping with just 1 essay a week is fine and section MWF and 1 test on the weekend should be fine.

I just don’t want you to get burned out. It’s like starting a tought workout for hte first time and losing motivation as it progresses.

sa0209-that’s an amazing score. 230+ is where I’m aiming too, and currently I have a 2200 on the SAT, which translates to 220 on the PSAT. How many practice tests did you take over the summer? I guess the better question is, how did you study for the PSAT?

And dorkyelmo, how are you studying your vocab? I’ve looked at Direct Hits (core and toughest vocabulary), and I strongly suggest it. There’s 400 words in total (it’s a set of 2 books).

Look. I NEED the extra review. My PSAT score isn’t so “hot” especially a 199 .Pretty pathetic. I can’t even pass the 200 mark).

And I know there isn’t an essay. But I might as well for the SAT?

theaudone-Thanks  I prepped with practice tests really. I took like 1 or 2 a week (like one SAT and 1 PSAT with around 10 tests total) and just went over my mistakes. I studied vocab (direct Hits) since hte curves on the PSAT are so harsh. I have to say I got luck on the CR though.

Dorkyelmo-As long as you can stay motivated (and it seems you are) I guess you are fine. Just keep your eye on the prize. And if you’re prepping for SAT, essays are fine. My mistake.

sa0209- What score did you start from? I’m trying to predict how much my score can improve in…less than 2 months.
And dorkyelmo, I feel your pain x)

NO ONE FEELS MY PAIN ^

First of all, you don’t have BFF’s scoring 230+, cousins who scored practically 2400s.

AND ME? a EFFIN’ 200 (NOT EVEN).

And no matter how motivated I am! I cannot reach my goal! To score a 230+ On my PSAT JUNIOR YEAR. F.M.L

^I know what’s it’s like, Dorkyelmo.

At my school, my class’s (future) valedictorian sits in front of me in one class. A girl that scored a 2400 on her SAT (single sitting) sits right next to me. This crushes me.

I also personally know 2 valedictorians. A family member of mine scored a 1950 on her SAT in 7th grade, and the only thing she did to prepare was looking through the Blue Book. This crushes me.

And then there’s me. I’m nothing impressive compared to them. When my classmates are cramming for tests, they always rush to everybody but me to ask questions. This crushes me.

Hell, even the teacher knows those two people are brilliant, and the teacher will often call on them to lecture to the class. But whenever the teacher talks to me, it’s about my missing homework. My failing test grade. My attitude. This crushes me.

So that’s why I went all out this summer on the SAT. Sometimes I feel really bitter about their successes and my failures. Other times, I try to channel that negative energy into my studies. I’m an ego leaner :).

My message to you is to relax. We are on the tailwinds of summer. When school comes along, focus on your GPA. Relegate SAT prep to the weekends. You are a rising sophomore (if I remember correctly). You’ll beat the PSAT when it comes in junior year. I’ll be here on CC every step of the way to help you out :).

I scored a 2340 on my SAT my second try (2140 first) and scored a 235 PSAT. Just do as many practice tests as it takes till you’re comfortable. Once when you start getting reallllyyyy tired of it, then you can stop. In my completely subjective opinion, that studying generates positive studying karma and you’ll do great on the SAT  (whenever I start getting sick of studying for something, even if I’m just zoning out rather than actually studying, tests get easier, even though I don’t necessarily get smarter). Just remember to review the questions you miss until you almost can memorize the answers.

Thanks you guys :)
