PSAT 2013 Discussion

Hey guys! The PSAT is in less than two weeks. Post any tips you might have for the upcoming exam...

I want to hear some tips. All I can think of doing right now is practice sections after practice sections.

Maybe this Saturday I’ll take a full practice test.

Also, I will be reviewing vocab. But I don’t know how. Should I write down every word I don’t remember? That would take too long…

Btw I’m using Barrons for everything, I hope that’s a smart idea.

Bumpady Bump bump…

I take it October 30th (my school got an extension). I also support this query… I got a 216 last year when we all practiced it, but have done zero studying since. Need some motivation.

Come on guys… I know all of u are taking the psat. Post some tips or predicted scores or something.

Oh yea an what is the predicted cutoff for Michigan this year? Cuz I haven’t studied too much. I took it in ninth grade and got a 196, and got a 205 on the CB practice. Hopefully I can meet the cutoff.

Psat is like 6 days away-!!!

I am taking the PSAT Wednesday in school eek
:(

Good luck KitKat! Did u prep a lot?

Taking it on Wednesday-
My weakness is vocab, but I heard by the time I take the SAT in junior year (I’m a sophomore) they’re gonna scrap most of the hard vocab, is there really a point in me studying vocab?

I took the PSAT’s last year. Since it’s tomorrow, I’d say don’t worry much. Just go tomorrow and take it. It’s not a test you can study for in 1 day. You probably won’t be awarded an NMS (National Merit Scholarship) but it’s still worth taking.

I prepped some from my SAT 2400 book. Any SAT prep you have can help.

Haha yeah, I was just freaking out momentarily after I took the practice test booklet my counselor gave me and I realized I got all the vocab questions wrong :stuck_out_tongue: but you’re right, there’s no point in worrying about it right now, I’ll just see how it goes tomorrow

I think the only thing you can do right now is just familiarize with the structure of the test, and maybe review some vocab terms.

It seems nobody has started a discussion for this yet, so I’ll be the one to!

How did everyone feel about the exam?

I felt like I did better than last year (186). Also, I actually practiced for this one. Writing is probably going to be my best section again. I know I got at least 2 wrong on Math. I’m probably going to get commended, but I don’t know about achieving National Merit Semifinalist, because the cutoff in New York usually ranges between 215 and 219. I studied for about 5 hours, taking a practice PSAT, and practicing a couple Math Sections from my Princeton Review Book.

I’m a sophomore, and I didn’t do any hardcore prep. I’m only the in Alg 2, so the math section was a bit tough. breezed through CR. Did pretty well on Writing.

I breezed through the math section, anticipating an 80 on that, but for CR and W, as usual I struggled a bit. Probably in the 50-60 range for CR and W.

Need serious help on writing

The general consensus is that most well-prepared students feel they did well. That makes me wonder if the National Merit cut off scores (which vary state to state) will be higher this year than they have been in years past. We shall see.
