Crash Course Videos and other resources for AP Chem and Bio

Hi guys. As you know, its another year of AP classes. For those of you who took AP Bio and Chem, what online resources and review books helped and what didn’t? I heard Bozeman Science and Crash Course are quite helpful, but should these videos be a source that one relies on to do well on the exams or does one need to read the textbooks profusely? Also, what strategies did you guys use to do well on the exams?

Well, I’m taking AP Bio at the moment, and I can email you my teacher’s syllabus just to see what my school is doing. She said that Bozeman Science is really good and she is using Biology in Focus (but I personally don’t like that book as I’m using Campbell’s Biology 9th Edition). There’s a lot of group work and we use Biozone’s AP Biology 1 and 2 workbooks for reinforcing what we learned. With that she gives us homework quizzes (pop quiz) and it gets on my nerves. Aside from that our first lab was erenbpheith (lol, in other words hectic) and she harshly grades the pre labs :frowning:

Also, even though a lot of CC’s say Cliff’s AP is great for AP Biology, I personally like Barron’s but that’s up to you. The class is going smooth for a lot students because we took the SAT II before coming into the class (it was a prerequisite).

I also thought Barron’s was excellent; I know a lot of people say it has too much excess info, but I actually really liked reading about the background/extra stuff, and it made me feel a lot more prepared for the actual exam. Barron’s pretty much covered everything that I saw on the AP bio test, so it gets a thumbs up from me.

Bozeman videos are good, though they are strictly supplementary (imo).

Do you guys think that if I only used barrons and Bozeman for ap bio I would be able to get a 4 or 5 on the exam?

@TheTennisNinja It’s possible, though I don’t recommend it unless you are naturally good at grasping biological concepts. When I took the ap bio test my teacher never used the textbook and taught from powerpoints and worksheets, and during the review period I had to use barron’s to teach myself several topics that we didn’t have time to cover in class. Not fun.

I am a little curious, I looked at your post history and it seems like you already took the 2015 AP Bio test? Is there any particular reason why you want to retake it?

@silmaril I got a 3 on it and I know I could’ve done better if I put in more time and effort. I’ve told myself that I will be more disciplined this school year so I am willing to put in the commitment required to get a 4 or 5 on the exam.
