Does anyone know any American poets edging on the verge of insane or crazy? Or just any interesting American poets in general that aren't too well-known? I ask because I am doing an English project on one, and I really don't want to do one on a super famous poet, but still make the report interesting. THANKS!

Ezra Pound was put in a mental institute, but he is also “super famous”, I guess he doesn’t fit both criteria

It’s easier to find enough information with which to take new and interesting approaches to this kind of project with famous poets.

^okay how about some crazy and famous poets like maplesyrup suggested :)

Well, Sylvia Plath stuck her head in an oven. So I guess she counts.

I think she was into depression rather than being crazy.

You can’t really say any poet was particularly crazy, they just happened to be manically depressed. When I think of crazy I think of the texas chainsaw massacre.

I think Sylvia Plath was quite an interesting character. Some of her works are being (or have they? I’ve lost track) released this year.

And I think the reason why mr poe got to be so mainstream despite his offbeat tendencies is because we use his freaking name in the word “poet”. poor poe, you could have been the topic of lordfarquaad’s english project :P

I am Poe.

(And Grisam too)

well I’m kicking edgar allan poe

and I’m also Grisam

I really like Allen Ginsberg’s whole protest persona and his poems. I think I may go with him!
