Creating an alternate common app?

Before November 1st I submitted my Common App to a couple colleges. I didn't know that once you submit it to one college you cannot change the app for other colleges. Now for the colleges I am applying to now (by the 15th) I was hoping to submit it with a different essay. I read that I could make an alternate version of the common app to change things such as the essay.

I am just wondering if doing this is okay?

Will the colleges I'm applying to now know I am submitting an alternate version and that I had change my original app? Or will they just get a common app as normal?

I did that last year too - in fact, I had 3 versions haha. I’m pretty sure they won’t be able to tell, and even if they can, it wouldn’t really matter.

I doubt they can tell, and I don’t see why they would care if they could know. The Common App is for your convenience, not the colleges; creating multiple versions makes more work for you and doesn’t hurt the colleges in any way, so why would they have a problem with it? I don’t see anything wrong with changing your essay for different schools if that’s what you think is your best option.
