Does anyone know how competitive it is getting admited to Pratt for creative writing. Do we need to make a portfolio or writing pieces?
If you have any information on Creative Writing Major at Pratt I would really appreciate if you could share it. Thanks a bunch!

I applied and got in to the Writing Program at Pratt, was accepted for the Fall '09 term. A portfolio is required. Mine was made up of two short stories (2-3 pgs each) and a required analytical essay. During my visit, I remember hearing they accept 1 in 3 applicants. The program is really small as well(under 200 students I believe?).

Wow that is tiny, only a 33% acceptence rate too! Do you happen to know if they focus more on the portfolio or on the students academic record?

I'm fairly sure it's much more portfolio focused. My GPA was only a 3.1 at the time of applying, 1170 combined SAT without Writing section.

According to the Admissions Dean, who posts on the Pratt community on Livejournal, there were 264 applications this year (or for the '09 fall term) for available 34 spots for the writing program. You can see the comment in this post:

That is around 13% acceptance rate.

whoa i had no idea it was so selective…

hi, I’ve been secretly brooding over the stats presented in this post since I applied to Pratt in October, but am now happy to say I got in!!!
I was wondering how the writing program is from the perspective of a student. What makes it so demanding, and what should I expect if I decide to enroll?

can I just say?: 264 applications, with 34 spots available, doesn’t mean just 34 acceptances. it means they want around ~34 students, but they accept more than that to yield to that number. so it’s def higher than 13%. I think 33% makes sense.
