Hello, I'm a newbie to this board. I've lurked a bit but this is my first post.

Can anyone comment on or quantify how competitive admission to the Creative Writing program is? Statistics as well as first-hand experiences would be appreciated.

I contacted the school to ask that question, because my daughter has applied to the Creative Writing program. I was told that about 30 out of about 300 applicants are chosen each year.

Daughter admitted to Creative Writing program, but will likely go to Fordham, because she wants the city. Still, very flattering, if they do indeed take only 10% of applicants.

My D applied to Purchase at the end of October, but has procrastinated submitting the writing portfolio until this evening (God willing…). Can anyone comment on whether she is likely out of luck at this point, both in terms of admissions and scholarship? The school did email her about two weeks ago asking her to submit her portfolio by March 1.

Also, since the school has rolling admissions, can anyone comment on expected turnaround time if she does in fact submit the portfolio now?

Hey guys!

I currently attend as a double major in Creative Writing and Playwriting/Screenwriting. I can safely say that entry to the program is very selective, however, once you are selected, they won’t turn you away because too many people ahead of you on the list chose to attend Purchase. The staff is very smart, and good at what they do, not to mention unbelievably supportive. They prioritize writing literary pieces, though, but I am a speculative fiction writer and they’re not restrictive of the end results of your labors.

To College4K: So long as she submits ASAP, she’ll most likely beat the deadline if they don’t accept the mailing date on the post. Turnaround time depends, but I’d say over the next month.

Thanks, NH3. She uploaded her portfolio last night, so hopefully she got it in in time to be considered.

Have you participated in the France study abroad program? This is something my D is very interested in and it seems like a wonderful opportunity with a slightly different focus than other study abroad opportunities.
