Creative writing for undergrads? And how is the English dept?

BU has a Master’s in Creative Writing with a faculty that has some acclaim, but I can’t find much about creative writing courses for undergrads on their web site. Is writing just more of a grad thing there?

Would also appreciate an honest evaluation of the English dept’s UG classes, faculty and students.

i cant say that i took part in the creative writing program but i know many majors require some form of writing through their curriculum. my experiences in writing are based off of that. BU has a HUGE amount of undergraduate writing classes. each class has a specific topic that is the main focus of the seminar and the classes are generally pretty small (20-30 people). the topics range every where from technology or whales to video games and religion.

The graduate creative writing program has one of the best faculties around and does open certain of its offerings to undergrads. It’s not many courses, of course, because it’s a small faculty and they’re primarily at BU to teach grad students, but Ha Jin’s literature courses are usually open to undergrads, as is Leslie Epstein’s fiction writing class (the latter by application), and a few more.
The English department is really excellent, actually-- kind of a hidden gem among American departments. Try to take classes with James Winn and Susan Mizruchi.
