Creative Writing Summer Programs

Oh, well musicallylatin, now you don’t have to worry. Stephen Lovely is really lovely. lol… I’m so funny. Btw, nice username. :D

Ah, actually had called ahead, before I submitted my application, and talked with him about it. He was all fine. :)

I was accepted to Sewanee! :DDD SO happy. =) And Iowa results will be arriving within the first week of April. crosses fingers about getting in At least I know I have a back up if I’m rejected from Iowa.

Has anyone else received an acceptance/rejection letter from Sewanee yet?

Gosh, I didn’t even apply. I’ve been so exhausted lately. I’m hoping for Iowa, but will fall back on a state program for another year if it doesn’t work. Plus I’ll probably be doing sennior project during summer school anyhow from the looks of things, so alas, not too many programs for me. lol

Has anyone heard of Carlton summer writing program? How is their reputation?

I’ve never heard of Carlton summer writing program, but I’d wager that most colleges also aren’t familiar with the spectrum of creative writing programs. But if you can attend, I would. I don’t think (and I don’t know for sure) that the reputation aspect matters much with creative writing programs, since none of them are super well-known, but you’d be demonstrating your interests regardless, and that’s always a good thing.

^I imagine schools with strong writing departments are pretty well acquainted with the strength of various writing problems.

Yeah, you’re probably right there. But I highly doubt that (most) top universities will be as familiar with writing programs as they are as with, say, TASP or RSI. But I don’t really know much about this topic, either; it’s just me guessing haha.

MissxSilverwing,

How long did it take to hear back from Sewanee?

Thanks :)

Hm, I sent in my application in February, but reviewals don’t begin until March 1st, so I guess it only took about ten days for me to hear back from them.

i disagree. i think that many colleges will know name programs.

Okay. You probably know better than me.

Anyone know of any programs for New York?

I’ve heard good things about Columbia’s summer writing program, though the cost may be a concern–there are several threads floating around here attacking the various pros/cons of Columbia’s summer program.

Hi everyone! I’ve been following this thread for awhile- I applied to Kenyon and Iowa…just heard back from Kenyon today (wait-listed), and I know Iowa is super selective so I don’t have very high expectations for that…I’m thinking of applying to Juniper at the University of Massachusetts, does anyone know of any other programs that are still accepting applications?

earthandsky:

Sorry about Kenyon, good luck with Iowa.

Regarding your notice from Kenyon, was it email or snail mail and what part of the country are you in (not sure this makes a difference re how fast you heard, but am curious as I could not recall when, or if, Kenyon says their notices go out).

Thanks

earthandsky;

Actually, what I should have said is good luck with Kenyon as well. I assume there is a lot of cross-over applications between Kenyon and Iowa, so being waitlisted means you are still in the running.

Thank you raschu! I got my letter through snail mail, and I live on the East Coast (Mid-Atlantic Region). I know they said they would send out all of their decisions by the end of March.

raschu: D also heard from Kenyon - she got her acceptance packet via USPS yesterday. We live on the west coast.

Congratulations to your daughter. Did she apply to other writing programs as well?
