Actually the letter was from Reynolds not Kenyon. Got a full scholarship to Reynolds but haven’t heard from Kenyon yet!

In the home page, it says:

Decision letters will be ‘mailed out’ to all applicants on April 1, 2013

But if you click the “Dates & Fees” menu item on the left, it says:

Decision letters will be ‘e-mailed’ to all applicants on April 1, 2013

I just received word from Kenyon and I’m accepted! Now I’m only waiting to hear from Iowa. What’s the acceptance rate for Kenyon?

Hi, my daughter got into UVA, Kenyon and Sewanee. Still waiting to hear from Iowa. For those of you who have gone into any of these programs, do you have any input. She is having a hard time deciding. They all sound great.

IOWA just sent us email. My daughter was accepted for session 1!
She also was accept by Kenyon.

Now we need to choose one of them. Has anyone been to both these two programs?

Hi, my daughter got into Sewanee, Kenyon and UVA. She will probably hear from Iowa today. Can you tell me about that program and should she go to Iowa if she gets in?
thanks.

Hi, Can you let me know how was your experience at Iowa? Can you compare it to UVA? Also, if you have a choice between Sewanee, Kenyon, Iowa or UVA which one would you recommend for a rising Senior this summer?
thank you

Has anyone else not received an email from Iowa yet?

not heard yet either

I got accepted to session one at IYWS, and am probably going to go! It’s my first time doing anything like this, so I’m quite excited.

I applied for one other camp, Kenyon, but was wait listed; even though John Green went to that college (to which their emails never fail to allude), I’m not too disappointed, since it’s was more expensive, anyway, and I procrastinated on the essay. XD

Iowa posted this on facebook this am:

Decision letters were sent out by e-mail (accepted students & alternates) and regular mail (all other students) on April 1, 2013. We regret that all decisions could not be sent by e-mail this year and apologize to those of you who are waiting for letters. If you would like your decision letter e-mailed to you please e-mail us at iyws@uiowa.edu with “Decision Request” in the subject line and we will reply as quickly as we are able. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

My daughter attended both Kenyon and Iowa, and both were excellent. If you had to choose one, I think she liked Iowa somewhat better.

@Hunt,
Thanks for reply.
Last night, my daughter reviewed all the material sent by IOWA. She had such a hard time deciding which instructor to choose! She is definitely interested in fiction writing and creative writing.

Nothing from iowa, which is to be expected

My daughter applied, unbeknownst to me, to both Kenyon and Iowa. She got into the Kenyon program (which looks fantastic) but got dinged at Iowa (which looks fantastic). She did the Simons Rock program (which was fantastic) as a rising soph. Of course, she is now DEVASTATED (declined going out for pizza) over the news from Iowa because “it’s the most prestigious” program.
I have discussed summers with admissions directors. The only kids who can even begin to take advantage of any of these programs are the privileged. Thus, they are discounted and not considered in the college admissions process. If you are a young, talented, aspiring writer who can take advantage of these opportunities then you should take them but NOT for any associated prestige. If you are not in a position to take advantage of any of these programs, you can spend the summer delivering pizzas and writing in your spare time and you will be just fine.

LEPops, I don’t fully agree with you–I think programs that are highly selective are helpful on the college resume, even if they go to the privileged. But Kenyon’s program IS prestigious.

There was an “Ask the Dean” topic on the issue of summer writing programs and the college resume that was interesting:

[Summer Writing Programs - Ask The Dean](http://www.collegeconfidential.com/dean/archives/000280.htm)

First, got into Kenyon with a full scholarship! A quick question, am I supposed to tell the other summer programs I got into that I’m not attending?

Second, LEpops, I completely disagree. I’m not sure what you mean by the ‘privileged’ but I’m assuming your talking about money. I don’t have the financial means to pay for any summer program, especially one that costs nearly 3,000. I told Kenyon that and they gave me a full scholarship. I’m not financially privileged at all but I’m still attending and taking FULL advantage of the program.

Yes, yasminwrites, please tell the other programs that you got into that you won’t be attending. Many of these programs either have a wait list or some kind of rolling admission, so you giving up a spot could make some other student very happy!!

Congratulations to all of you on your acceptances!

Does anyone know the acceptance rate at UVA or Kenyon?
