F.A.'s available.

how are applications, or decisions about programs going for everyone?

I am in a state of elation right now, having finally sent off my app for CSSSA =P

Ha. I'm anxiously awaiting my response from Iowa. Tomorrow I'll (hopefully) be sending out my Kenyon app. It all depends on it they'll let me send out the FA form later, since my mom hasn't filed taxes yet. (I want to rip my hair out because of that.)

^ Anyone know when and how we get the Iowa program decisions? I have to know like, now.

They're sent out the first week of April.

I emailed uIowa multiple times asking whether my application stuff was received. I never get replies >.> I need to remember to call them tomorrow.

they are all so...expensive, which just makes me think typical suburban rich kid programs.

:(

I was talking to a very English kind of person today who told me Iowa and Kenyon (along with most the others on here) are some of the best writing programs you could ever attend as a high schooler. What differs these from the rich white subburban kid programs, is that writing isn't as forced as much as the math and sciences are, so these programs can't get as good of funding. With 30% acceptance rates, they have to be some what good at least.

lol, musicallylatin, your very english-y person would be right--these are some of the best writing programs out there, and they generally do lack funding, which is why they are so often only 1 or 2 week programs. They are definitely more selective than typical "suburban rich kid programs"--a lot of people get turned away, if that means anything. Of course, statistics can't really speak for itself, since selection is based on the quality of your writing.

Anywhoo, would love to hear from you all when you start getting responses from your programs, k? I know how contagious that sort of excitment can be :)

I'm definitely assuming the best for everyone here!!

One month and counting.

I am so nervous. I'm sending out my Kenyon stuff tomorrow. (Yes, I know, a day late, but one of the ladies down that way said it would be alright since I'm sending out my FA form with it, and my FA form has been presenting us some difficulties. :))

I just got confirmation that they received my app... whoopdedooooooooooooooo~

Same here! The plot thickens... And, just for the sake of using a crappy cliche, you could cut the tension with a knife.

Haha. Oh, and the other day when my internet was down... I decided to reread my application and found multiple careless mistakes like repeating a word twice. >.>

I'm such a dumbass.

I hate it when that happens. I made so many people read through mine that I think I weeded through most of the stupid ones, but I know there's some just sitting there waiting for me to uncover.

This is torture. Two months of wating. I hope I'm in. I think we should all be admitted just for the terrible stress they're putting us through. :)

lol, completely agree with you musicallylatin! Being psychic would probably help right about now too..

And ns2583--I know!! I've found a lot of stupid mistakes too--I actually forgot to put the title of one of my poems down on the page!! But luckily it's somewhat identified...after all, it's labeled as assignment D or sth like that =P

Ha. I won't actually re-read through mine. It makes me nervous. I am putting together another portfolio. Just for kicks and giggles I think I might apply to the writing program at Walnut Hill (boarding school), so I'm pulling some of my Iowa pieces for it. :)

Lololol. I was actually supposed to look for something in the California area so I could mingle with my grandparents afterrwards, but I couldn't find anything that appealed to me and is decently priced. So I guess if I don't get in this, I might search some more for something near California.

Have you looked at Innerspark? Too much money I'm guessing... I can't pay it, since they only give FA to in-state students. :(

Actually, it looks alright. However... Iowa was the only creative writing program I was thinking of applying to. I'm actually super interested in taking a psychology class... >.> The only one I could find was at Iowa State University, hahahaha... so I applied to that as a backup. But yeah.. my parents would obviously prefer it if I went somewhere near California.
