Credit Equivalencies of cc's and 4 year's

I'm going to a community college in NJ right now. I want to transfer to 4 year school next year. I was talking to a friend that goes a 4 year one and told me that a 4 credit course in a cc would be equivalent to a 3 or 2 credit course in the big one. Is this true for all the 4 year colleges? of could it be that it's just for the one she goes to? I wouldn't want have 30 cc credits and just get 15 in the big one. Give me some answers please, especially ppl in the NJ and NY area. Thanks!

It'll depend on the school you transfer to and their policies on taking CC credits. You need to contact each school you're looking at and ask them about their policies, as it's likely every one will be at least somewhat different. Also, some universities may have a special agreement with CC's in your area and may have a list of equivalent courses on their website. Just go poke around the transfer sections on their websites. But this is really a question for individual schools that cannot be answered with a general response on here.

Also, check out this site: NJ TRANSFER: Linking New Jersey's Colleges and Universities. If you look at the Comprehensive Agreement thing, it says that an Associates degree will count for exactly half the credits at any of the four-year colleges within the agreement. I found this site in about two minutes from a link on Rutgers's website. Really, a google search can get you information a lot quicker than posting on here and waiting for a response. Just saying.
