Just a quick question about AP credits.

If someone places out of a class because of AP credits, does this mean they place out of the intro class (or the class that is comparable to this), and accelerate to the class at the next level, OR do they actually gain CREDIT for that class toward graduation, as if they had actually taken the class at PSU and have to take less credits overall to graduate?

We could not figure this out from their website.

Thanks.

If the specific APs in question are direct equivalents to Penn State courses, you would place out of them and not have to take it again or a higher level course unless you chose to do so.

Also worth noting from their website: If credit is awarded, a student’s university record will carry notation of credit, but no grade will be recorded. Credit awarded will not affect a student’s grade-point average at Penn State.

Thanks. I guess where I am confused, though, is whether this means one could actually place out of a semester of classes. For example, if someone is awarded credit for 5 or 6 AP classes, does this mean he or she could actually be able to go for seven rather than eight semesters and graduate?

Definitely! That was actually what sold me on Penn State. Again, it depends on whether or not the APs in question meet your program requirements, but yes, you could graduate in seven or less semesters if you have the scores outlined on the admissions website.

Thanks for the information.
