Credit for AP English Lit at UC Berkeley, and others

Hi all!
I was wondering, if a college (UC Berkeley specifically, but in general too) says they waive the freshman Reading/Composition requirement for those who get a 4/5 on the AP English Lit exam, do they transfer your AP grade (4 or 5) or class grade into the college GPA? As in, if I got a B in the class, they would put that B on the Berkeley transcript, or if I get a 4 on the exam, I get a 4 on my college transcript?

Thanks a lot!

Actually, I think Berkeley takes a 3; I know it is hard to believe…3 makes it to Berkeley, but a crappy university only takes a 5…

No, I that is not how it works. The AP credit is just used to validate the lower division classes so that if you passed the AP, you can take the next higher class. Your score doesn’t transfer into your GPA. This is the reason why people are hesitant to use their AP credits, and miss out on the “easy A’s” for their GPA.
