"Credit" for courses taken in middle school?

First off, I’m a junior who has been lurking here for more than a month now, but this is my first post. Try to go easy on me if this has been asked before! (I searched old messages but couldn’t find anything.)

I know most selective colleges recommend four years of math. I took Algebra I and Geometry in 7th and 8th grade (respectively), and both appear on my transcript. I always assumed that those two classes, plus the three years of math I’ve taken since then (I’m in Calc AB now) would equal five years of math in the eyes of admissions officers. However, according to the NYU website, they would only consider me as having taken three years of math, since the first two classes were taken in middle school.

Is this the policy at most selective colleges, and if so, will I be regarded as a slacker for not taking math my senior year? (Keep in mind that I’m still taking five APs next year.)

i know at the UC system, courses taken in middle school that meet the a-g requirement are counted as a year of math if B or higher, but are not calculated into the GPA. i took cpm alg 1 in 7th grade so i got credit for a year of math.

wat about at Ivies? Penn? Columbia?

You know you could always take statistic to give you the extra year of math.

I know, that's probably what I'll end up doing. Our GCs are just really strict about changing schedules after the deadline has already passed.

Do colleges look at middle school grades that counted as high school credit if they appear on your high school transcript?

if your high school accepts a middle school class as credit, usually do especially if its a middle school in the same district than ask your counselor to list that class in your freshman year. they'll most likely do it.

what would that do though?

I was about to post a question similar to this, but since the O.P. posted something like it, I'll put it in here.

When colleges say something like 3 years of a foreign language, do they mean 3 years in high school or up to something like French Level 3?

I took French 1 in 7th/8th grade (two year program for 1 year...what a waste :P), French 2 in 9th, and French 3 in 10th. I was going to do french 4 this year but had a scheduling conflict (which would carry over into next year, so I can't take french 4 next year...).

So is it 4 years or 4 levels?

It is years.

In our school district, the two years of middle school language count for one year, and each subsequesnt high school year equals one, so you would have 3 years of language. Middle schools with this system only cover half of a normal year's curriculum in each calendar year.
