Credits at Stanford

Does anyone know where I can find out about the credits given for GCE Advanced Levels at Stanford? How generous is Stanford in giving credits? Do you have to take placement exams to earn credits for many subject areas?

Unfortunately, Stanford is very bad at giving credit for AP, IB, and A-Levels. Here are some webpages that might be useful for you:

Can you use AP credits to fulfill the General Education Requirements (GRE)??

i.e. if I have 5's on Calculus and Chemistry, do I only need 1 more quarter of science to fulfill the Area 2 requirements (Natural Sciences, applied sciences, math)

no. on that link posted above they said that you can't use it to fulfill your GRE except for a foregin language

Thanks for the link. Looks like I am not going to receive too many advanced credits.

Is there a chart for GCE A-Levels like there was for AP or am I going to have to call them up to ask about A-Levels since far fewer students come in with them?

The information for IB credit is super vague! Can any IB student help me out with more detailed info?

All i know about IB is that in some aspects it's very similar to AP. For example, you don't get credit for humanities courses (like english, history, etc.) but aside from that i really don't know.

Okay so what is the point of taking the AP tests then if they are in the humanities? I have a couple left O_o

Other than personal satisfaction, there really isn't a point. I had initially signed up for 7 APs and 4 IBs, but found out that I only get credit for two of the APs and one of the IBs. Unfortunately, i needed the IBs for the diploma but i was able to get like 400 dollars back for the APs.

this bites. ap bio for nothing =(

omg 4 ap's this week and not one of them count. Well at least I dont have to study

i studied for all my tests except chem which is the one that counts. all well haha no point in getting mad

does anyone know what is the average amount of courses someone takes a quarter at Stanford????

3 is the average course, amounting to 15ish units.

oh wow. that sounds really good or is it harder than I think it is???

In case anyone (paulhomework?) would like to know, I called the Registrar and asked about a couple of exams. No credit for History, English, Biology...grr. Up to ten credits for a score of 5 or better on French HL (and I assume Spanish as well).

AAAHAHAAA! Those are my 3 HLs.

Thanks garou. I also heard from someone else that they don't give credit for ANY of the humanities tests, SL or HL (except certain languages). However, they do give credit for techie classes which are HL, such as computer science, math, physics and chemistry perhaps??!!

annoying because a lot don't count and its hard to get motivated to study for the ones that do count. so i bomb physics and calculus but then i'll probably pass gov't easily. not fair.

so do the APs actually count for your overall credit, like how many units you have to have? If they also don't count for GERs then what do they count for? Placement only?

mean stanford...wasted so much time and money on stupid ap tests i didn't have to take!

is there credit for higher chemistry IB?

ARGHHHHH I take higher history and english too!!!
