Credits during summer quarter?

I was wondering if there is a minimum amount of credit that you should take during summer quarter. Is there anything wrong with taking below 12 credits? I'm thinking of taking 8 credits (2 classes).

Thanks.

You can do whatever you want during summer quarter. I don’t quite understand your question, “Should” according to who? I’ve known people who have taken credits numbering from 1 to 30.

UW2014, taking classes during the summer quarter is optional, so you can take as few as you’d like. It isn’t considered in your full-time/ part-time status.

If the reason you are asking is due to financial aid, you need 8 credits during the summer in order to qualify.

If you are asking for any other reason, the choice is yours. There is no “should”

Oh, so it’s 8 credits instead of 12 for financial aid?

If you’re going to take summer classes, take around 15 credits or you’re definitely not getting your moneys worth. Unless you have an internship or something else that takes up a lot of your time, you should be fine with a full course load. Professors give a lot of slack during the summer.

Okay thanks. But would there be a problem with the 105 credit rule? Or is that nothing to be afraid of?

Only if you have 90+ credits at the end of the year and haven’t gotten into a major? In that case it might be a problem, but advisors are usually very lenient if you talk to them about it.

So basically summer quarter is just like any quarter? Extra charges will only apply if a person takes more than 18 credits?

Yes, but tuition is a bit higher than normal. Check the UW web site for more details about tuition prices, but I think 12-18 credits is the same price.
