My D just finished her first semester at Wash U. (Arts & Sciences) She took 14 credits of classes her first semester. She checked her unofficial transcript on Webstac and although all the classes that she took are listed, (which total 14 credits) it indicates:

"TOTAL CREDIT GRANTED BY PROFICIENCY * 12.0"

What does that mean? Did she not earn 14 credits?

Also, along the same lines. She recently read:

"You will be cited on the Dean’s List if you meet the following academic standards: completion of a minimum of 14 units of graded work while achieving a grade point average of 3.5 that semester."

She did finish the semester with the appropriate GPA, but, again, we were confused by the credit issue. Did she not earn the requisite credits needed to be on the Dean's List?

Finally, what is considered a "competitive" GPA for a pre-med?

Thank you!

I assume when you say “unofficial transcript” you meant the “Grade Report”, because the transcript doesn’t list anything as credit by proficiency.
The total credit granted by proficiency is credit she had accumulated prematriculation–like through AP tests, college level classes she took in high school, etc. If you click on the actual “Unofficial Transcript” tab, it will show the transcript with the total credits.

Some classes do not count towards “Dean’s List credit”. I’m not positive of the requirements, but I’m pretty sure U-College credits do not count. Could this be the reason?

Dean’s List notification is three weeks after the end of the semester. She’ll be contacted by email if she qualifies.

And as above poster said, by proficiency is from AP tests, placement tests, etc. It’s completely separate to what she took that semester, and isn’t counted for Dean’s List.

You said she took 14 credits this semester. If she got the 3.5, she’ll get the email next week.

Thank you for your quick and informative responses!
