What is the best way to get information on which credits have transferred and what classes we'll need to take etc? Should I give the school a call or wait until I visit? I'm mainly concerned because I want to take summer classes at home and I'd like them to be counted towards something.

Transfer credits are a huge task when attempting to figure out what and what doesn’t transfer. I would suggest to visit the transfer office specific to your college. For example Lorna Wells is who you would see if you are transferring into Watson. There should be that 1 person at each college who should be able to sit down with your transcript in hand and tell you what you need to no. Alternatively you wait for a review of your transcript and you follow up after you see the results.

Shouldn’t a transfer credit evaluation be included with your acceptance packet or shortly after?

Wait, is this a question about how you get your summer credits approved or about the credits you’ve already submitted for transfer?

I can’t help you with the latter (contact your school’s advising office), but as for the former:

If you are taking credits at a SUNY community college, the credits will automatically transfer. If you are trying to satisfy certain general education requirements, you need to make sure the course number (ex- Spanish 101) will satisfy the requirement on yours DARS. Go to advising and make sure it will satisfy the requirement before you take it. I took a summer course at my community college and I didn’t do this (thus it didn’t get satisfied) so make sure it counts. Some schools require “permission” forms to take classes as a visiting student (essentially requiring Binghamton to say that the credits will be accepted) but that does not mean any requirements will be fulfilled.

If you aren’t taking classes at a SUNY CC, but instead at a private college or another SUNY, you will need to go through similar processes that you have already done as a transfer to ensure the credits transfer.

When you’re done, submit the transcripts and thats it.
