I don’t know either but according undergrad announcements the option to double major is only for bachelor of arts programs. I know that they don’t allow students to double major in accounting and finance. There was a girl in one of my finance classes that wanted to do it and was told she couldn’t.

You’re not allowed to double major in the College of Business? That’s stupid; I don’t see why you can’t do something like that. I mean, especially with accounting and finance, because the class requirements are very similar and I’d be able to graduate in 4 years because of AP credits that I already have and whatnot. That just ruined my plans =/

Clemsonfan, a head of the honors college recommended placing an emphasis in finance and then doing an extra year for a masters in accounting (you’d need an extra year anyway to be a CPA) because almost all of the courses are the same. He said there were only 3 extra accounting courses to take or something like that. Ask someone about it

I know somebody majoring in chemistry and chemical engineering so I think it’s possible to double major in the same college. Maybe it’s an honors college only thing? I’m pretty sure you should be able to double major in whatever you want.

clemsonfan92, I would email snalley@exchange.clemson.edu/email, or your academic advisor: rwoods@clemson.edu/email, hunter3@clemson.edu/email, or swooten@clemson.edu/email with your question to be completely sure of this

you can double major in the same school as long as one is a BA. Chemistry is offered as a BA and I’m betting that’s what your friend did.

Ah I found this in the undergraduate catalog: “A student in a Bachelor of Arts degree program may be awarded a single baccalaureate degree with a double major. The two majors may be within a single college or may involve two colleges but are limited to Bachelor of Arts degree programs.”

so you’re right, you can only double major if one of your majors is a BA degree program. Maybe you can still do it since you’re in the honors college. Go talk to someone and see if you can get special permission (just email the people in the college of business and explain your situation). I think it’s stupid because I know someone else double majoring in Architecture and Packaging Science and even though Architecture is a BA degree, that’s a lot of work compared to either accounting or financial management.

If they don’t let you do it, you’ll probably have to get a minor in either accounting or financial management.

Alright thanks for that input. clemson14, would that mean majoring in finance with a minor in accounting or other way around? because i plan on getting a master’s degree in accounting

i guess that if accounting is the end goal, you’d probably want a major in accounting? don’t take my word for it though, i’m not a business major haha

I think he told me you would major in finance in that case? I don’t really know. Definitely e-mail someone

You could do it either way- it’s up to you. You would probably complete the curriculum sooner doing accounting and having a finance minor, but you would obviously have less of a finance background. Getting your CPA will require you to take all of the accounting classes you would want to, so I don’t see a reason to not study finance if it interests you as well. It would also give you more movement in the job market if you aren’t set on being an accountant.
