Creighton University Pre Med Biology

I have been accepted by Creighton but am still curious about its effectiveness and reputation as a pre med school. I picked Biology as my major and I hope to get involved in undergrad research. Is there a substantial advantage in choosing Creighton over a large, less expensive school like University of Illinois UC?
I haven't heard back from U of I yet, but hopefully my decision will come down to Creighton vs U of I. Any insights are appreciated

No.

there’s nothing wrong with Creighton, but there’s no advantage to going there over UIUC or virtually any other schools. Med schools don’t care where you go to undergrad. There’s really no such thing as a “reputation as a premed school.”

There’s nothing unique or mysterious or complicated about being a premed student. The premed prereq classes are just staple classes offered everywhere.

Are you instate for UIUC? UIUC isn’t really inexpensive, even if instate. Although it would be cheaper than Creighton if you were full freight there.

Thoughts on Creighton specifically:

1) They are very strong in Pre-Med, with a strong advising program that starts freshman year, and a network to assist with taking the MCAT’s;

2) Creighton UG’s do have an admissions advantage when applying to Creighton’s own Medical School. I am not sure on the specific percentage advantage, but it was fairly substantial.

3) Very nice, welcoming campus, with very nice students.

Overall, mom2collegekids is dead on, but the atmosphere/fit of your UG may very well impact your UG performance and grades, so you should definitely visit any UG program you are strongly considering.

Last point: I have heard, and have direct knowledge of one prospective student last year, that Creighton’s financial packages can be negotiated, so you might want to keep that in mind if you are on the fence.

Good luck!

Are you eligible for honors college at U of I?

I am assuming you are in-state for U of I. From your post, you are talking Illinois?

Where have you applied to? Have you done any college visits?

You want to go where it is affordable, where you can do well, and where you are happy.

woof woof
