Did anyone else get this
Or rather, how many other people got this?

I got one.

Wondering that as well.

ya I did also. It's nothing special lol :p

Last year it was sent to everyone.

check out the "Follow-Up Congrats" thread. Everyone got this letter.

lol

man do i feel special lol

i didn't. =(

Yeah, I saw through that one, too.

My son received this letter. Why does a place like Princeton with a fine reputation, need to do something tacky like this? I thought I read that this letter has been sent for several years.

It really cheapens the whole process.

What?? What's the letter say?

It's from the dean of the college (or someone), who says something like

The director of admissions (or someone) mentioned your name SPECIFICALLY to me, and this makes you - well, i don't want to say 'creme de la creme' - but - oh, hell - the creme de la creme of the applicant pool.

That was my reading, anyway. I found it a rather odd letter.

Years ago my husband attended Stanford and swore that the Dean of Admissions knew quite a lot about the kids who were accepted. Maybe they sent it out to many students...the kids who get accepted do get discussed.

Yeah, when I visited for Preview Days I happened to run into a few Ad. Officers (not Rapelye, although she was around and available if prefrosh wanted to talk to her). Most of them remembered where I was from and what school I went to after I said my name, and they asked how one of my ECs was going. I think foto2gem is right.

Still, the letter gives the impression that they only send it to a handful of people. It struck me as phoney.

Sounds tacky. Hard to believe that Princeton University would utilize such tasteless tactics. What's next--an incentive to purchase a used car from Princeton University Autoplex?

rly, everyone got one? not just from certain departments?

I didn't get one. So...maybe they do only give it out to certain people.

HandsAcrossTime, maybe the mail got lost or maybe you live in an inaccessible country or maybe you've already accepted your offer and they didn't see the need to send you one. I'm sure everyone gets one. If I actually could get one... then I know everyone else deserves one too.

Though it was probably sent to everyone, the contents of the letter
are incredibly warm and genuine- even if it was sent out every year ;)

I am with foto2gem and ceebee63 that the dean actually does get involved
in disucssing everyone- maybe at the end of a day/week.

:)

D got one. It was tacky. But she did like Princeton when we visited. Not a bit tacky.
