creswell vs russel

any thoughts?

Creswell because it has a heating unit in each room.
This is Russell:

They both have Visitation Option #1. Meaning that you can’t have any visitors from 2:00AM-10:00AM on some weekdays. On Friday-Sunday you have 24/7 visitation.

If I were you I would choose Myers, if you applied for the Honors Program or O-House. I think they’re the best options with Creswell following as third.

My sister is in O-house now and seems to really like it. However, after talking with my future roomie and more current students, I signed up for Russell as the first choice. Second was Oglethorpe, and I don’t remember our third option, haha.

Two comments that particularly made me want to reside in Russell were one exclaiming that she “LOOOVVVVEEEDDDDDD RUSSELL!!!” (perhaps there were more letters, though, haha) and one saying that he wished he signed up for Russell (not sure why, though…sorry!)!

Anyway, if you go to Russell, perhaps I’ll run into you! :)

As a former Creswell resident, I would completely recommend Creswell over Russell.

1) In room control for temperature
2) Closer to Bolton and Ohouse dining halls (Bolton is practically downstairs)
3) On the bottom of the hill (well, compared to Brumby and Russell) - unless you like walking up hills, this is a HUGE reason to choose Creswell. Cuts down your walk back to your room by a few minutes
4) I actually think it’s nicer than Russell, but I also lived on a girl’s hall and we decorate our rooms.
5) easy access to buses going both directions
6) Closer to Tate and MLC

I really liked Creswell, and I’m glad we ended up there and not Russell (mostly for the temperature control and bottom-of-hill-ness and proximity to dining halls). As for looks, Russell might look better on the outside, but they look practically the same on the inside. The rooms are also the same size or at least Russell isn’t noticeably bigger. How “fun” your hall is depends on the people on the hall but that could be really random and depends on the RAs and what they’ll put up with. Creswell is supposedly the more active of the two, but I doubt there’s a huge difference. I guess the only bad thing about Creswell compared to Russell would be the fire alarms, but they’re not THAT bad. You can always just go to a friend’s place for a while, go to the dining hall, or go to your car. It’s not a big deal. I only had a few inconvenient ones, but I don’t think that’s a good enough reason to choose Russell over Creswell.

Go creswell :D

okay thanks  and is o-house good for freshmen or is it more of an upperclassmen hall

I think my Ds choices were O-house, Reed, Russell.

Ohouse was traditionally an upperclassmen dorm, but it’s turning into a freshman dorm. Most upperclassmen now choose ECV or Myers quad dorms.

Can you get Myers if you are not honors?

gamomof3: Not really sure about that. My D is currently a freshman in the Honors Program and was not able to get Myers this year, even though it was first on her list. Because of her sophomore standing on credit hours and gpa she had a very early registration time for housing for next year and again not 1 slot for Myers was open. I think it is heavily freshman or repeat people.

FYI, your housing priority dates to when you paid your housing deposit and if you have a preferred roommate, it dates to the later date of the 2 kids. I hope that everyone paid their deposits early. Even though we paid ours pretty early, the girl my D found to live with paid hers on the later end and that impacted their choices.

Thanks. D did her housing registration the Tuesday after EA announcements were made her roommate did hers on Sunday. So we are the later of the two dates. I hope the couple of days difference really won’t matter. D did not pick Myers but her chosen roommate did and neither did Honors so I was just wondering on the chances that they would get Myers…seems like a pretty low chance of that happening so roommate should probably change her pick.

Yeah her chances of getting Myers are low.

I think they site said that they choose the rooms according to the preferences of both roommates. So if both of them put Creswell in any slot, and had different choices for the rest, they’ll most likely consider Creswell first.

Your daughter might want to contact her roommate and talk about which dorm they want to stay in; that way they’ll both be happy in the end.

Agree that it is best if both roommates have the exact same listings for dorms. You should be good in terms of when you paid your deposit. That is plenty early. Unfortunately it did not occur to D to ask her roommate when she paid hers, cause it was towards the end. Oh well, that’s life. She is happy with her roommate and has made the best of her dorm.

I am not sure exactly what Housing will do if the girls put different preferences down. I think in our case it was the later deposit date that messed things up, but will say that beyond their 1st choice the girls had different 2nd and 3rd choices and got NONE of the above. That is why i’d recommend that they agree to all 3 choices from the get go.

Best of luck to you.

They both have o-house as 1st first choice. the only other one they had in common was reed. she has it 2nd, her roomate has it 3rd. So if they base it on that, they should be in o-house or reed.
