I was bored so I was going through the Uof R website. I found some crime stats and they are suprisingly high for a small college such as U of R. espcially sex related crimes and burgeries....

The statistics are not that high at all...
And if you look they have decreased dramatically.
One of the things you pinpointed, sex offenses, happen everywhere. Yes it is sad, but they are really unavoidable. You are going to be on the River Campus, so 3 is not that much in 365 days really.
And burglary- it again can happen anywhere and these happen because the students are stupid- leaving their doors unlocked, not locking up laptops, etc.
College is as safe as you make it- if you do stupid things, then crimes will happen to you, but if you are smart then they won't.

I am at Eastman often and see the security postings when an incident occurs. Looking at that chart it seems clear to me that not everything is accounted for on there. Seems odd.

PS I'm NOT saying it is unsafe, because I don't believe it is. But students should be cautious at all schools.

This is the sort of thing I'm talking about:

These appear to be usual for a college. check out some of the colleges in a larger city and you will be amazed.
Studernts need to know they have to be careful at all schools: not leave valuables around, not going out late at night alone, etc.
